Ok, so I've got a relatively simple setup consisting of the following equipment:

1 - Xantech 490-00 Micro Link
1 - Xantech 789-44 connecting block
1 - Radio Shack 12v/1.5A Power Supply
4 - Xantech 286M Dual Blink-IR Mouse Emitter

I've got the Micro Link stuck through a wall and leading straight to the connecting block in my equipment cabinent using the 7 foot wire that came attached to the receiver. I only have one of the dual emitters hooked up right now for troubleshooting. The display is a rear projection TV, so it should not present issues like plasma sets do.

Now that you know what I have, here's the problem. Whenever I try to pass a command through the system (using either the original remotes or my Harmony 680) I can see the receiver blink green and the emitters blink red, but nothing happens with the equipment.

Finally, some things that I've tried. I am doing this in an almost completely darkend room, so the lighting should not be interfering with anything. Also I was originally using the power supply that came with the Xantech receiver, but I purchased a higher amperage one that should provide more than enough current for everything.

Please give me some suggestions for things to try, as I am pulling my hair out trying to get this very simple setup to work for me. Thanks in advance!

Chris

Make sure that the power supply you are using is a REGULATED power supply, otherwise it will not work properly. The 781 power supply that xantech sells is MORE than enough power for your setup, as emitters only use about 3mA each, and the receiver only uses around 10mA or so, if I remember correctly. The xantech power supply should be rated at about 200mA, 12VDC. If you are using a radio shack power supply, it may work intermittently, but if the emitters are flashing, I wouldn't worry about it right now. Try moving one of the emitters around on one of your component's IR windows to see if it makes a difference. Sometimes the flashes can be too much for some touchy IR pickup receivers. Also, are you getting a small amount of flashing on the emitters even if you are not sending any commands? If so, then you have some interference, which will interfere with the component's ability to receive commands reliably and correctly. Also, if you have a multimeter, test the DC amperage coming from the xantech power supply. If it is working correctly, you should see a constant voltage of anywhere from 11.9 to 12.3 amps. If this tests ok, then we know the power supply is not the problem. The only other items in the chain are the wiring (I didn't read that you cut any cables, so we can assume that the wiring is OK, unless items aren't plugged in all the way, which sometimes is the case), the connecting block, and the mini link. As a last resort, I would pull everything out from the wall and connect it in front of you, and then put the emitter on a component, and test it that way. If it works, then there was a loose plug. Also, do you have a plasma TV? Plasmas can occasionally provide interference with IR systems as well. Good luck.

Trying to get it right

Ok, so I
1. switched back to the Xantech power supply. I measured the voltage output and it is 12.01 V, so it looks right on.

2. tried to move the emitter around on my receiver (which is the piece I'm using for testing) and had no luck. However, I tried another piece of equipment (Tivo) and it worked just fine! So, I tried the rest (cable box, DVD, HD box, media center PC) and they all work fine.

The only piece I can not get to work is my Panasonic XR-25 receiver. I did try another emitter with it and have tried moving the emitter around to different locations on the face, but have not had any luck with getting it to work. I'm making progress, but without the receiver, I still can't control my system. You've gotten me this far, so any other suggestions? Thanks!

Did you actually look to see where the IR receiver is, or are you just randomly moving the emitter? Teh receier is't on the front display. See pae 4 of yourmaual. Use a flashlight to see where the receiver is, and put it there, then test. If that dosen't work, move the emitter 50% off the spot you just put it, then test.

Finally, make sure that the remote you are using is outputting good IR. Change the batteries. I assume that the emitters flash when using the Panny remote?
