I have recently been given the oportunity to give a bid on a Resteraunt/Nightclub contract for multizone/multisource audio. I have done other smaller projects like this with one exeption, the placement of the subwoofer is posing a problem. The room has no likely place for one (so as not to be a nuscence to whoever would be seated close to it). The room however does have a ships vaulted ceiling with exposed post and beams running across it. I am looking for any suggestions to manufacturer name and models of possibly tube style subs, I know I've seen them but don't know who makes them. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Check with Bag End if you are doing something for a nightclub. They have some VERY impressive sound for that application.
with all do respect... i had no idea that you had an experimental surgery to have your balls removed.

what kind of volume is this place going to require? If it's loud, I'd make room for JBL or Cerwin Vega, if it's not loud, then a couple of NHT's inwall subs would work.
We can do it my way, or we can do it my way while I yell. The choice is yours.

Soundguy04,

Try this link: [Link: svsubwoofers.com]

This is one choice, but we don't know enough info to really help you.

Before choosing you'll need to know the volume of the room, and what SPL you want to achieve, and at what frequency. Since this is Multizone, you'll need to know these specs for each zone. Chances are the requirements are very different for a dance floor, and a restaurant area! (One the dance floor, gotta feel the vibe, in the restaurant, may not need any sub.)

Sorry for being too specific with some info and not enough with the other. I'm just conscerned with the dance floor area (seperate room from the dining room) I can't do in-walls and powered cubes due to bad placement areas. I am really hoping to hang a big tube or array some small tubes from the beams. Thanks for the links, I will check back for more later.

Don't mess with ANY consumer level subs... even if the DJs don't overdrive them to a certain death, which they will, the cabinets wont hold up well to the abuse of a club application.

You need big cabs with industrial finishes, speakon positive locking speaker terminals and sturdy metal grilles.
James, Boston, etc. are nice home subs for a living room, but they will live a short, tortured life ion a club application.

Cheaper end products to look at would be Peavey Black Widow, Ramsa, MTX, Yorkville, etc., and the very top end are the BagEnd, Meyer, and ServoDrive models.

The middle ground is populated with a lot of choices, look at JBL, EV, Community, Cerwin-Vega, etc. and buy a lot of good clean power to drive the cabinets. Also, use an electronic crossover, don't rely on the worthless coil that is in there to actually keep the bass from being boomy and crappy sounding.

2nd Rick knows the drill. Most of us have learned it the hard way. But to me it's not clear that you are in a full on night club situation there. Sounds like you are in a pub kind of application with maybe a small dance floor on weekends? Define the scope and the requirements before you get involved.

The demands on a nightclub system and the requirements have changed dramatically in the last five years with the advent of hip hop. A system that could peel paint off of the back wall of a room is now inadequate in terms of delivering the low frequency people want to experience. Most clubs are either doubling their bottom end, or in the process of learning all about the costs of driver re coning.

When designing a nightclub system, remember this important word...."OVERKILL"
Build in a healthy margin of headroom or don't even bother.

Also, sub cabs in applications like this like to be on the ground, and usually loaded near an additional boundary (side wall or even a corner).

You CAN fly a sub cabinet if (it is has flypoints)...
but you will want to avoid it.

Also, if a cabinet does NOT have flying points, do NOT just screw in some eye bolts and hang it that way... choose another cabinet.

If you cobble together a cabinet and hang it, and it falls and hurts someone, you will be in deep sh*t.

BTW, if you absolutely need to fly a sub, you can do a LOT worse than that Bose cannon... those things are insane in large spaces.

Learned this one the HARD way.
For the dance floor area, go with pro sound equipment!!!
JBL, Peavy, etc. With LOTS of power.

I do both venues, home and bars.

The home arena offers excellant 'imaging'; the bar LOUD !!!
When you get 3 or 4 hundred people in a 'drinking' enviorment, power, combined with the speakers to handle it, wins!

If you try to use home quality compenents for this application, you'll be sorry!!!

I primarily use Crown amps for this situation, not 'high end', but affordable and bullet
proof.

You need to develope a relatonship with some one that already has these products, or find a way to get a dealership.

But, don't think you can use these products in the home. The 'hiss' will drive you crazy!
You don't notice the noise in a public area, but, you will in the home!

I play in a band with a guy that sells these products,so, I have a 5% above cost product line to offer (he doesn't do installations) and he is willing to "get his name out there" on a product only situation.
Every day is a good day.......some are just better than others!

Proud to say that my property is protected by a high speed wireless device!
