I have UPB lights and some Philips Hue bulbs. Also some z-wave lamp modules. I didn’t program anything on Alexa. Alexa discovered the lights through the elan skill.

You werent able to have UPB discovered, right? You mean just the Hue lights I assume.

Ive always been able to unlock my zwave locks, thru Total Control. But, i took it out and also dont put it in customers systems for obvious reasons.

I use alexa EVERY DAY to control my system: on, off, lights, etc. Even to pause whats playing I use from time to time. What a pain it would be to control channels, volume, etc. No way I would ever want to do that.

No, Alexa discovered all of my lighting because it was through Elan.

I’ve been using Alexa more and more for this stuff too. Also my son uses it to control the lights in his room and turn his tv off at night.

My home is fully automated with Alexa. Alexa works through a UDI controller which allows Alexa to easily issue TCP/IP commands. The UDI controller handles all my Lighting (Insteon) and Thermostats (Z-Wave). All my "Odd-ball" devices are TCP/IP based so Alexa can talk to the pool/SPA, use a Global Cache (IP to IR) to talk to TV and set top boxes, and for complicated things to a Raspberry Pi control system.

In the theater which is controlled by a dedicated PC the only thing I use Alexa for is turning the entire theater on as it takes about a minute, all basic control is via a Philips 9800. However I do have a Fire TV Cube which is also controlled by TCP/IP, but I do ask Alexa to "find" something I want to watch. That is very convenient.

There are STILL some that call voice control a "phase" or trend. That's reserved for 3D and curved sceens, not voice. Voice is here for a long time and for me is an invaluable tool. Regardless of the data collecting,,,,
