My home is fully automated with Alexa. Alexa works through a UDI controller which allows Alexa to easily issue TCP/IP commands. The UDI controller handles all my Lighting (Insteon) and Thermostats (Z-Wave). All my "Odd-ball" devices are TCP/IP based so Alexa can talk to the pool/SPA, use a Global Cache (IP to IR) to talk to TV and set top boxes, and for complicated things to a Raspberry Pi control system.
In the theater which is controlled by a dedicated PC the only thing I use Alexa for is turning the entire theater on as it takes about a minute, all basic control is via a Philips 9800. However I do have a Fire TV Cube which is also controlled by TCP/IP, but I do ask Alexa to "find" something I want to watch. That is very convenient.
