I did a job and it started last October and the gc wanted the projector lift and projector in October. Both got damaged by lightning. So both were purchased almost a year ago but not used till recently.
The furniture didn’t get delivered till mid June . So they have been using the system for 2 months at most.
1. Do you charge for labor on repairs on surge/lightning damage if the gear is under warranty?
2. When it happens when the system is new does it affect the way you charge to repair it?

You cant possibly be expected to cover product that has lightning damage unless you were negligent somehow like attaching the lift to a copper bar that connects to a lighting rod lol. Homeowners insurance might cover the lighting damage.
Gears warranty probably wont cover lightning damage.
If its a good customer you might want to give them a break on labor but IMO it shouldnt be expected.

Warranty doesn’t cover lightning. They can pay for it, insurance can pay for it, or it can remain broken.

All warranties start the day the item is purchased, not your fault the GC wanted the equipment when he did. Besides, are you sure it was lightning and not something else electrical/surge related to construction?

We try to replace product under warranty. Sometimes we get lucky but I charge my normal hourly rate on "re-installations."

No warranty that I've heard of includes payment for simple removal of the bad unit and reinstallation of the good unit. If those simple and necessary steps are not covered, there is no reason at all to think that any time spent as a result of a lightning strike or a power surge should be covered. That includes, as 3PM says, time for dealing with the insurance company.

lightining is a nonnwarranty issue... bill normal rate and add extra to deal with insurance company... warranty does not cover acts of god.

Lightning damage and electrical surges should never be expected to be covered by the manufacture The client or insurance pays. Be prepared to replace everything that was connected to the projector
