Does anyone know, could I blue tooth from a phone into a HEOS device, and then from that same phone, open the HEOS app and share that blue tooth stream with the other zones?

Why use BT when it's designed to be a NETWORK interface?

Yes- connect it to the first device and group the others. Still better to stream via the network. Much better range, it sounds better and it's not hijacked when a phone call comes in.

Craig must have a reason for wanting to stream from the phone.

Are the control and usage features when the (presumably) music streans from the phone, the same as when streaming comes from the network and (presumably) the phone is used to control things?

I’ll give you the short version.

Customer:
I want a multi-zone audio system, with one of the zones being surround sound with a TV.

Me:
You can use Sonos or HEOS. If you use iTunes or Any service from Apple you should choose Sonos. As it doesn’t work with HEOS. Here is a comparison, FAB for each, links etc. Please investigate for your self and let me know which line you would like.

Customer:

I choose HEOS please.

$$$$ in equipment, and work is done. Demo system and am playing music from the phone.

Customer:
Why won’t all of my Apple Music in my phone play through HEOS?

Me:

Let me have a look at that. Is some of the music cloud based? HEOS plays from the phone.

Costumer:
Oh yes I subscribe to Apple Music. Is that a problem?

He asked about the blue tooth. I said that was a terrible idea, for all of the reasons you mention, but still would like to know if it would work. Hence my post. I suggested he switch to Spotify. He looked very sad. I ended up connecting an Airport Express to one HEOS device in the rack and he’s very happy.

But I’m still interested in the Blue tooth question so thanks for the replies.

From what I understand, BT version 5 is suppose to have multiple speaker capability. Which is in the iPhone 8 and X. However, I don’t know if Apple has released that ability yet or not. Nor do I know how the speakers are able to work... do they have to be BT5 as well? That I don’t know.

Nevertheless it would evolve the client going into the BT settings of the iPhone to select the speakers.

Nice- the client didn't seem to listen to your comments before making his choice and now, it's your problem to solve.

Seems pretty standard for this industry.

I was frustrated by the situation at first, concerned he would be unhappy with my service and his purchase, therefor jeopardizing referrals and future business, but then I realized it’s really not my problem. Not exactly a great customer service attitude but the good customer service was provided by solving HIS problem.

His system works as he wants. He already had the AE lying around so it cost neither of us anything. Win win.

But I have decided I’m going to create a qualification form for every customer to fill out, kind of like a medical history questionnaire that you fill out when you go see a physio therapist or whatever.

Who is you internet provider?

List equipment you own and want to use?

What music services / TV services do you subscribe to?

Etc etc.

Maybe everyone does this already.
