What would be the application for something like this? Just for power?

If I wanted to use wifi I wouldn't be asking for the adapter. Same goes for laptop. Maybe I don't want to carry one in. I saw some just looking around the internet and wondering if anyone has used one. If you have, could you share your thoughts on it.

Wouldnt you just use a laptop? Seriously, what are you going to check? Are you going to verify that the Lightning connector provides enough charge current for a phone? Do you intend to check ethernet performance using the Lightning connector? Do you know of software that could interpret whatever is sensed? The way you name this makes it look like you want a device with an ethernet connection to test or confirm something with a Lighting or USB micro connection. Ethernet doesn't have any power, so the device under test will have to supply the power for the test. What if the DUT has a power problem? How will the "adaptor" be able to function? Manufacturers want to make money. The fact this this product doesn't already exist might be an indication that it can't work or that there's no need for it.

A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything. "The biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place." -- G. “Bernie” Shaw |

Did this once for on-wall iPads...I think you'll need a whole fistful of dongles/accessories: -lightning/usb-micro -> usb-a (female) -usb-a ethernet adaptor -power has to be added from some source, the lightning port won't power the ethernet adapter on its own. Redpark sounds like the product we used (several years back, different employer.) [Link: redpark.com]Overall, not worth the hassle.

That Ethernet adapter no longer works with newer Ipads and software. Tried this about 6-8 months ago and the Ipad would never pull an IP address. I hate Apple.

Simply to use either type of phone to test an output of a modem for example. I saw a few on line. They have a circuit enclosure of some sort inline and it caught my interest. I assume the phone would power the adaptor. Sorry it's difficult. Thought it was a simply question. Used one? Do they work? Gimmick? If any little tool or device is worth trying. Someone here has tried it.

Most androids dont even use MicroUSB anymore. All the current ones are USBC
I dont believe apple has any authorized lightning to Ethernet adapters licensed. so even if it works today, it might not work on the next OS update.

Also so far only the iPad Pro supports USB3.0 on the lighting connector(the cables don't yet) So you are limited to USB2.1 with a max data rate of 480Mbs...how are you going to test network speeds when you are limited in your data rate?

Last I heard, most people do not have speeds anywhere close to 480Mbps. So to simplify this. Has anyone used an adaptor on a cell phone, say a current Samsung (to eliminate the Apple from this)just to verify if there is internet on the end of this little cable with a plastic plug?
