Last I heard, most people do not have speeds anywhere close to 480Mbps. So to simplify this. Has anyone used an adaptor on a cell phone, say a current Samsung (to eliminate the Apple from this)just to verify if there is internet on the end of this little cable with a plastic plug?
The answer is: no.
Here's how I would handle this:
[Link: a.co] - there are multiple models in this line-up w/ different features (PoE, etc)
You can quickly toggle between router & WAP mode w/ the hard-switch on the side. Leave them both configured for DHCP mode by default and you should be able to plug in and have wifi access inside of 60 seconds in 9 out of 10 installations*.
*if DHCP is disabled on gateway it takes a bit more work obvi.
I keep a couple of these on hand; very useful tool-kit addition.
You can do this with Apple, you need part #s MC704LL/A and MK0W2AM/A. We are using 20 of the latest generation iPads in this setup to connect to wired internet. There is a downside, the iPad charger doesn't have enough juice to power these devices and charge the iPad, but if you're only using to test with it would work.
Not sure how you are getting that Apple combo working. I have the exact setup sitting in front of me right now, along with a new IPAD on latest software. This is all sitting right in front of me next to my test rack that has a 48 port Edgeswitch.
I can plug this shit in all day long and the Ipad never gets an IP if set to DHCP. I even had tried setting static, still will not work.
I contacted Apple about this about 6 months ago, as I planned to use it on a project. I got to tier 3 support. I was told verbatim, these devices are not supposed to work that way and is not fully supported.
So...... if you have some sort of magic luck, can you please post what works to get this combo satisfactory?

If you don't need it to work, it will work. Hmmm.
What would have to be changed so it would work?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything. "The biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place." -- G. “Bernie” Shaw

Not sure what to tell you, this has been working on an enterprise system (University of Nebraska) for almost a year. All iPads are managed and updated regularly. As I said our only issue is that the iPads slowly discharge and need to be charged without the dongles in place. We literally had the exact same discussion with Apple with our charging issue with the same result...these devices are not fully supported.

?? Let's use some reason for a moment.

The OP was talking about using this as a test device, not one that would be left installed all the time so charging would not be an issue. For it to work reliably and charge it would take a larger power supply to supply power to the two dongles and to the iPad/iPhone.
Really not getting a great approval vibe from you guys. Shelving the idea for now.
Maybe because it isn't a great idea. Several issues and problems with this idea have been pointed out, you are asking what wrench to use to hold and turn a screwdriver do you can make a hole and people are suggesting you use a drill instead.
I’m not asking for anything such as that. I saw a man chiseling what looked like a round object. Possibly what is called a wheel out of a large piece of stone. I was asking if it works? Did not get a good vibe from these guys so I kept my square wheels and just get out every 90 degrees of revolution and flip them another 90, get back in, realizing I’m not going anywhere fast and repeat.
I have a professional tool, much more advanced than shown. I was thinking a bottom of your basic tool bag device. Because you always go in with a basic tool bag right? And of course phone is with you.
