Made the leap to a full-on Nespresso machine two years ago, and have never looked back. Beyond easy and yes, great coffee, too. Easy to recycle the pods, too - Nespresso provides postage-paid UPS bags.

ok, went the Red Bird Espresso www.redbirdcoffee.com route and picked up some green beans from https://www.coffeebeancorral.com/. We'll see how much a PITA roasting is lol.

I’m pretty serious about my espresso but haven’t gone the home roasting route (yet). I did try it once in an air popcorn popper but I don’t think it got hot enough.
I would suggest buying some of their roasted beans to compare your results to.

My two cents. Good luck.

I tried it for a year. $1.11 a pod and honestly, the quality isn’t that great. It’s worlds better then keurig but the coffee I get out of my technivorm is heads and tails better then Nespresso. I will say it makes a pretty good esspresso though.

Once things pick up for me I’m looking at getting a dedicated esspresso machine. As my snobbery progresses a dedicated machine for coffee and esspresso is a must!

Have had the Jura E8 for a couple weeks now. Very impressed with the machine. It can froth milk like nothing else. Very customizable. Not so impressed with finding a bean I LOVE.

I like really dark, rich coffee. I assume I like a bit of bitter taste maybe since so many say Starbucks sucks and its bitter. But, I like it. There's been discussion on here about how there are so much better coffees out there. Ok, which ones? Ive gone thru all the beans available at the local chain grocery (HEB). Not found one I want to stick with. Espresso was the best so far I guess. I will be picking up a small back of Starbucks just to try.

So, what are other recommendations?

If you like a bit of bitter try this. We use to do beans and all the different brewing mechanisms/styles over the years, and this combo makes the best coffee - get Dark Roast w/Chicory if you like coffee with a kick. (And you gotta use the percolator for best results. Just like granny)

I hope those that are using pods are using ones that are truly biodegradable. Most of those are plastic or aluminum and take something like 150 to 500 years to degrade in landfill environments and worse they often end up in the oceans and seas.

Nespresso provides a UPS labeled bag to recycle the pods. I hate the pod systems, on top of the environmental impact of them.

Very good to know. I cringe at the office when I see people using keurig pods and they go right in the trash.

All I can say if you are worried about oceans and seas... I hope you don't sell any consumer electronics. So much styrofoam. No, you would never do that 😜😜

Remember that beans are best between 3 and 21 days after roasting.
Goes without say that you grind them right before making your coffee

Only downside is it will ruin every single coffee shop experience out there. You'll be a snob and won't want to drink anything but your own stuff

Bought a Seceo Xelsis automatic espresso machine several years ago. Wanted a bean that we could use for espresso and coffee. Found, love and haven't switched from this bean for years.

Pete's Coffee: Major Dickason's Blend. Great bean for both types of coffee. Yes, it will ruin you for coffee experience anywhere else.

I am a fan of Red Bird Coffee. www.redbirdcoffee.com

My favorite is the Blue Jaguar Espresso blend but the Red Bird Espresso is a little more bold and roasty in flavor.

You’ll get it just a few days after roasting.

Ordered the Red Bird Espresso. Bag said roasted 3/19/18! Nice. Bout the day I ordered it.

Received it in. The beans are great looking and smallish. Not shiny/oily at all! That's perfect for auto grind machines. So excited I drank late afternoon lol. A no no for me as means no sleep till midnight.

Maybe they sent the wrong bean? After trying two or three days I couldn't wait to get the beans OUT of my machine. Absolutely horrible. Zero flavor, no boldness, acutally kind of gross. Just not good at all. Tasted like the "can" of beans I bought to test that was $4.98 for a pound. Mabye 1.25 lbs. SO disappointed.

Even opening the bag I expected this huge explosion of odor. Nope. My first thought was "good grief i hope it taste better than it smells!" Wishful thinking.

Starbucks Espresso roast is till the only bean I like so far. I know that can inflame a few lol. But is what it is. The search continues.

I'll have to see if RedBird has a trade in program or satisfaction guarantee as it was a waste of 20 bucks for sure. Bummer. Sorry!

Try redhousecoffee.com

They are in Burleson. Coffee is $12 or $13 per 12 oz. bag, $5 shipping. But then again maybe not. They don't over roast like Starbucks.

Sorry you didn’t like it.
They are definitely a medium-level roast. It seems like you like ‘em really dark and roasty and smoky. That’s completely opposite of what I like. I think the red bird has a lot of subtle flavors and that Starbucks espresso is lacking any flavors except for burnt. I wouldn’t try any roasters that call themselves third wave. You will be pulling a lot of shots that taste like someone squeezed a lemon in there.
Hopefully, you, at least, enjoyed the chocolates.

Never heard of third wave? But ok! lol

Chocolates? Never got chocolates. But that makes me happy, Im the oddball that hates the taste of chocolate. Burnt coffee I guess is my flavor lol.

Redbird has been very nice about all this. Claiming they NEVER had anyone complain about it. Offered to replace it. I dont think is a good idea. Unless maybe i just got a bad batch? Not sure. Doesnt even smell good in the bag. Hell, even Folgers ground smells good in the can! lol. Thought it was odd they ask if i let it go past 7 days after roast lol. Do they not know what they sent? It was marked
"roasted March 19th" and i contacted them about the 24th. Thought that was interesting. I suggested they just send me one ounce to see if it was a bad batch. They also offered to send another bag of my choice. A sampler would be smartest.
