I would say Sonos should have never been sold as part of an integrated system. We have all had this discussion many times over the years here and IP.

There have always been 2 camps

1. Don't do it, they could fist you at any moment

2. The hacked driver is great! You guys don't know what you are talking about!!!

And then camp 2 posts "don't do it, they did fist me!".

This may be fine for a 1 to 1 system (sonos piece for EACH ROOM) but once you have a matrix involved it gets more complicated for clients. its nothing short of a disaster. I have not been met with the same "attitude" as you have been lucky to of received. I have been hit with the complete opposite. :(

Can you elaborate on more complicated? I get that a customer would need to use two Apps (control system & Sonos) or the controller (touchpad or remote) and then switch to the Sonos App for music selection. With a Matrix I'm assuming 1 Sonos connect per household member. So they just choose their own name, etc for music playback.

Is there more?

FWIW, I had to roll back Sonos driver in a C4 system as (previously working) sound was not playing through Sonos from my TV after updating to Sonos endorsed drivers. Quote from dealer, "Sonos can control the volume, but was not switching. Tried reading Sonos, no change. Looked up endorsed Sonos driver info. As of that update it can no longer switch to the local input of the Sonos. Change all Sonos drivers to 8.1.2."

Your dealer is wrong. They need to configure the Sonos to auto switch based on tv source and configure room end points properly. They also should go to Settings - Room Settings - Playbar - Then there are two preset settings that have to do with volume control. Deactivate those. Turn the room off and on again, and it should work.

Just to clarify, it was through a Sonos amp feeding ceiling speakers not a playbar. There was no configuration that we could come up with to get the TV sound through the speakers wth the new driver, unless someone has any other recommendation.

Actually, your dealer and tweeterguy are both correct. Problem lies within a lack of discreet input ( aux ) switching command in new driver. Yes, you can set up your Sonos amp as tweeterguy described it in his post, however the moment you decide to listen to Sonos music while TV is on, " auto " sensing/switching goes out the window. You will not be able to switch back to TV ( using C4 remote ) unless you shut system off first, or use Sonos app to force aux input.
Despite the warnings, I am still using " unofficial " C4 Sonos drivers. I ( want to ) believe that sooner rather than later endorsed driver will have some basic additional functionality - i.e input switching.

My understanding is that Spotify will "break" for all un-endorsed Sonos integrations some time in April. By 2018, integration in its entirety will break for all non-partners. Sonos is going to change up the UPnP communication protocols.

I believe Elan is now an official partner, btw.

Sorry, didn't read through the whole thread. I know there was at least on "F U Julie" in there.
