I have never taken hand-held remotes doubling as IR learners. If you want to learn an IR code correctly you need a dedicated learning device. You are better off using one and cutting and pasting hex codes into the CCP software than you are learning the codes in.

+1

I use my RTi learner for all learning, 10000000000 times more reliable.

If they don't work well enough, the manufacturers should remove this from their remotes.

They shouldn't make us waste our time grabbing codes.

I've never had an issue learning commands with urc remotes. I have had trouble learning rti commands with the learner that wasn't there.

Had a first issue of its kind with URC last week.

MX-850 being replaced by MX-990. Couldn't control a 4x1 Key Digital component switcher with the 990 by any database codes, even the very codes form the DB the 850 was presently working with.

It would, however, work if I put the old 850 to output IR for the switcher then learn into the 990.

I never tried the DB codes from the 990 via IR to it, but didn't matter cause it had to be RF in the end.
