Even cheap racks online cost what they cost. If you want to do it cheaply, build a wood box and a set of rack rails.
Hey, careful man, there's a beverage here!

i dont mean to sound like a dick but........ who the eff cant afford a snap rack for their office system? also, their are NUMEROUS 4x1 switchers that can be had for what you paid that would outperform what you purchased and give you the 4x1 you ultimately want! I dont see the value here.

also, i have numerous MC3, MLX3 for sale. a brand new in box 6x100 and a brand new unopened Adagio AMS-AIP make an offer!
I love supporting product that supports me!

I realize it needs two cables and I realize it is old. However for the price it's specs are adequate.

I know what I'm doing picking out the parts but working on a budget. Being a dealer you know how much these items cost.

For instance a DM-MD8x8 list price is $4,300. A DM-MD6x4 list is $3,800. I realize that the markup is a lot and I could get it cheaper but not that much less expensive.

I was thinking about getting the DMPS-200-C but the transmitters that are supported by it where much more expensive even used.

Depending on cards included, 8x8 chassis have been going as low as around $600 and selling with some decent complement of cards (either included or you can buy separately) for just over $1000.

Saying you don't mean doesn't mean I'm not going to take offense.

I'm really getting a lot of flack and not understanding why. I had a goal. I accomplished it in the most economical means available to me without compromising on capability.

For those interested this is my office AV system. The LCD is a LG 32LD350. [Link: dropbox.com]

I am thinking about adding in my AMX PC1 box to provide a way to hard reset the Apple TV 4 when it acts up to save time on navigating the menu to reboot it. If I need to I can also add in a Crestron C2N-VEQ4.

I didn't want another brand of switcher. I wanted a Crestron switcher. I work with DM switchers every day on job sites. I have seen how solid they are. This is an old one but it is a proven platform. Keep in mind it's not just a switcher. It is a switcher and a transmitter.

My solution offers me a clean pathway for CEC control of my Apple TV 4 so I don't have to run an IR bud to it.

I can use CEC control to get the feedback from my LG display since it's responses to serial commands are next to useless. So now I can discreetly turn the display on and off and set it to the correct input via a serial port and display with certainty the correct state on the panel even if someone uses the remote or buttons on the display itself.

In addition I never said I can't afford a rack. I asked for a recommendation on a cost effective rack. Since my day to day duties don't have me doing the purchasing I don't know where to go to get a good deal on a quality rack. Plus I was hoping someone might know of one that looks like an entertainment center or something with an actual rack built into it.

People rip out Crestron 'systems' because they're bad, but are happy to sell you the individual components that, more often than not, are in perfect working order.

Hmmmm...

just like every other brand!!! When a new company comes in to service an aging system or even a current system, they will 9 out of 10 times try to replace with the brand they represent.

In my experience Crestron and AMX parts are ripped out for a few reasons. My experience is education, commercial and government. I can't speak for residential.

1) The programmer that programmed the system was inexperienced or just not good and the system was as a result slow or prone to failures.

2) The warranty on the hardware has expired and the parts are being replaced to reup the warranty on the clients terms instead of in a pinch.

3) New models are released of the gear and the customer has to have the latest version.

4) A sales person convinced the client that the other brand was better and the entire AV control system is ripped out and changed with the other.

Rarely has the hardware actually out and out failed. Most of the time the hardware is perceived as useless because it is obsolete. If you have imagination parts can be reused.

For instance I have heard it said that 2 series processors are no good for smart graphics. That is way overblown by sales people to get customers to part with their money. The Pro2 and AV2 with expansion cards for project memory are still very useful. CP2E processors are to a lesser extent useful on smaller systems. One nice thing about these processors is that the IP Table never fails to initialize upon boot up and reporting them is almost instant.

In my experience multi program architecture in Crestron systems leads to vastly over complex solutions. The true strength of the new 3 series processors is SIMPL #, multi-threading, OO programming and the Visual Studio debugger. Of course having opted for the compact framework Crestron has shoehorned themselves into the aging 2008 platform. The API needs to be moved to the full .Net framework so that more modern versions of Visual Studio can be used.

Do you still have any of this kit and is the list of anything remaining "PM-able"? If so, could I get the list?

Thanks!

I'm excited. I just got myself a DM-MD6x1 and DM-TX-300N for less then $150 total.

This completes my office AV system in terms of hardware. Does anyone know of a cost effective AV 15U rack that maybe even double as a place to put the TV on top of?

Does 18RU work? The OmniMount Re-18 comes pre-assembled and is on casters, with a glass door. If you don't want the glass on the front, you can swap it with the steel door on the back.
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."

I just used a Sanus CFR1615 on a job.

15u skeleton rack. Came with a 1u and a 2u shelf. I thought the price was very good.

I like that Sanus rack for mechanical room network HE stuff.
You can also get a set of swing arms for it.
IMHO, better than the snap version.
I may be schizophrenic, but at least I have each other.

Not Crestron, but I did score 5 JAP 2G transmitters for under $300 shipped. I am very happy with that. First time I have used eBay in years.
