Embrace DIY products, HDR , HDR and more HDR , VUI is the new GUI , and that's about it , leaving CEDIA somewhat disappointed....

Explains why C4 is still there.

We skipped it this year, too much work. Plus, it was in Dallas. CEDIA seems to be getting more and more useless as time goes along.
I came into this game for the action, the excitement. Go anywhere, travel light, get in, get out, wherever there's AV trouble, a man alone.

+1 here. I couldn't agree more on everything ^
Crestron was the deal breaker for me.

A shame too. I've been going every year since 2002.

Could it be these custom oriented products are not evolving as fast as high tech products coming from big companies?

This: Modulus

They plan to ship a 13 TB unit for $2700 in the first quarter. The product can even save and store 4K streaming video. It’s like a TiVo, Plex, Roku, BD player and Kaleidescape wrapped into one.

Pro Audio had a pretty powerful demo. I am working on a design with them so it was good to get a face to face. My friend has patened a piece for combing wires that I hope takes off. And the Sony Z series looked great.

Even though Dallas was not a bad experience, unless Cedia goes back I doubt I will ever enter TX again. It was better than Atlanta... lol

You should check out Austin before ruling out the whole state. You would probably enjoy Austin.

It was a good show I thought. The DLP market for projectors has woken up with availability of 4K DLP chips so there were a good number of projectors to look at. As mentioned, Z-series Sony flat panels made a good showing (as did LG with OLED). All of these you need to see than just read about.

Weather was somewhat hot and humid so the move to San Diego next year will be a relief on that front.

I taught my same class on video and attendance was far higher this year than last. I was there for just two days and that seemed like enough time to have a few good meetings and see some stuff.

Left the Chicago area for the Houston market about a year and half ago and couldn't be happier to get out of a broken state.
Then again you like the snow and I couldn't be happier if I never see it again.
