Hello Guys. I have been using Luxul, and people are telling me... luxul sucks! use Unifi... bla bla bla. Ok. I am using Unifi. happy so far, till I had to come back or send my guys to re configure something.

the stupid web interface using "ttps://localhost:8443/manage/account/login"
only works in the computer that was used to configure that originally!

my credentials on someone else's computer do not work.

the stupid chat support told me to use amazon AWS. what the heck is that? and is it the only way???

My Chat with UBNT:

Sir, I understand your concern. However, I have given you the option of the cloud controller
Otherwise, you can directly configure the APs at the site instead of configuring it first with one controller and then reconfiguring the AP with another on site.

Ok, i am still confused:
i don't want cloud. i want local access
I don't and I can't be attached to ONE single computer. the customer needs to have access to change his wifi password, other technicians needs to have access to change anything, how to do that locally

UBNT-Aiwin
Okay, in that case, the best thing to do is to install the controller on the customer's computer, only then will he be able to change his wifi password when he needs to.
The technicians can directly configure the APs and the controller on site at the customer's computer

you're kidding me man. i cannot believe i am selling this crap all over town. Then, my customer buys a new computer and throws away the old one. what happens

Were you having problems with Luxul? if so what were they?

AWS is a cloud server where you can deploy and host services.

Google "amazon aws unifi"

Run the unifi management application on a fixed machine that you can remote into from a web client run on the engineers computer.

AWS is basically a hosted machine rented to you by Amazon. It allows you to do what I said above but without you having to have hardware of your own.

We run it on a server at our office and port forward to it by setting the unifi "inform" URL appropriately in the discovery tool.

Works a treat for us.
What do you mean you wanted it on the other wall - couldn't you have mentioned this when we prewired?

The new Cloud Key (which is under $100) sits on the local network and does all this without any licensing or usage fees. It's a beautiful thing.
The less I say, the smarter I will appear

But Guys, many times we setup the WiFi network in a jobsite even before the ISP install their modems , so we can get going on testing the local network, etc etc. so there is no way to work offline with Unifi? Is it really attached to a one-computer-only-deal? My gosh. that must be the most stupid decision I have ever heard.... I can't see my self dealing with that..,,

Luxul seemed to be good, till we started to receive calls about the network locking up, Aps needing to be restared, a LOT of firmware issues, we having to roll a truck several times to a customer to update firmwares, all kinds of excuses... it really seems like Luxul put their crap on the shelves for US to do the testing for them. I am fed up.

Your not using the ISP router are you??

Your tech's can reconfigure them as long as they know the username and password setup originally. Even then if they don't you can reset them with the reset button.

You need to have remote access into these sites to alleviate your truck rolls. Port forwarding into a management machine at your office or the cloud key are your best bets with unifi.

No, we use the Edge Routers, ou a small business cisco

That's what I thought, but my tech was on site using the credentials I use on my computer and it does not login. So he used his credentials, logged in, saw the APs online but cluld not addopt it. Chat support confirmed only one single computer can manage it.

We usually do all that, to remote access Crestron, Receivers, Etc. We always use a VPN router, but there is no way to directly access Unifi APs by opening ports, is there?

Humm. Just learned that. A $100 addon that fixes that problem?? Then we create a local manager with a login anyone can use?

The only way i know of is to use a cloud server or a cloud key for access without opening up ports. although its ports on the receiving end, not the outbound.

If you only want local access from any computer on the LAN you should be able to:

1. Install the Unifi Controller as a service on some computer on the LAN.

2. Instead of "localhost" use the IP address of that computer in the browser.

It should work.

yes it would, but it would also require one fixed computer per job. Not realistic. also, that computer, stays there for 2 years, then dies. next thing you have to do is reset the whole network to factory, remove APs from walls and ceilings, and start over. It's gotta be the most stupid product i have ever seen...

Yes could have a computer on the network.

Or you could setup the system using your own laptop and save the settings for each site.

You would have to restore the site specific settings when you went back on site to make changes.

You could use EnGenius products - you can configure them using the devices built-in web server.

There are ways that work, and work well to accomplish what you want. Instead of complaining about the process, learn it and utilize it. It's a powerful solution and one that clients will appreciate as well once you start showing them some of the benefits. I had a client email me concerned that someone had hacked his network and wanted to know how to change his password. I asked him what he wanted it to be, and as soon as he told me, I replied that his new password is now active and old one removed. Talk about a happy guy.
