The new Cloud Key (which is under $100) sits on the local network and does all this without any licensing or usage fees. It's a beautiful thing.

Does it still let you monitor the system as well as the management tool does?
What do you mean you wanted it on the other wall - couldn't you have mentioned this when we prewired?

Along the lines of the Cloud Key has anyone tried using one of the "Windows on a stick" devices running one of the remote login tools?

The Cloud Key is a one trick pony correct? Only good for running the UniFi Controller?

Yes, because it is running a local version of the Unifi Controller the same way a normal computer would, and the controller version is upgradeable too the same way it would be on your computer.

Also under settings on the AP change their encyption key and user to something easy or consistant for your company If someone comes after me to the jobsite they can adopt the aps by knowing the username and password of the ap's not my credentials. This is nice when you dont have to reset them to do your job. After they adopt them make sure they also check to see that they leave them
with same user and password.

But when someone else adopts the APs, the SSIDs, etc., that have been configured on them will be overwritten. How do you get around that?

If it's not simple, it's not sufficiently advanced.

I don't.... I have to redo that.... I make files on drop box for customers info so if it gets redone, it gets redone....

Its more difficult...But at least you don't have to reach high ceilings or reset and then adopt...

Because Unifi works better. It's not thst difficult. We use our own server. Easy, quick, performs great.

You don't make backup of configurations?

The re-adopt of UniFi APs would only happen if you lost initial controller configuration.
And even then, how long does it take to re-create 1 or 2 SSIDs, setting password for the site, setting VLANs for main and guest network and then adopting few APs?

With CloudKey, you could do that remotely.

yes it would, but it would also require one fixed computer per job. Not realistic. also, that computer, stays there for 2 years, then dies. next thing you have to do is reset the whole network to factory, remove APs from walls and ceilings, and start over. It's gotta be the most stupid product i have ever seen...

Did you do ANY research on the Product before you started switching clients over to it?

Unifi is a Fantastic product if you want to help manage your clients wifi. Its NOT just a set it and forget it system. (Although it can be, I have clients sitting on my server that I havent talked to in years and its running perfectly fine still)

Speaking of Cloud Key...
Mine locked up on me -- looks like it lost all the settings and was blinking (factory default state).
I've re-added it and used the restore backup option, but none of my settings (SSID, groups, etc. came back). Has anyone used restore backup feature on Cloud Key with success?

There is a small chance that I made a backup of default state before I've added all the networks, etc. and forgot to create another backup once I was done.
