My coworker went to the dermatologist this week to have a couple moles removed, and got a bit of a scare. He's 30, and the doctor told him he has significant skin damage on the left side of his face and neck. So much that she wants to do some sort of treatment, and told him not to be out in open sun any more (for the rest of his life) without sun screen and a big hat. But really, avoid the sun at all costs. She said this was from driving and to get his windows tinted immediately. He told me this while I was driving.

Sorry if you may think this is OT, but I thought given how much we are all on the road every day, this was worth passing along in case others weren't aware of this.

Honestly tinted windows should be required by law. I literally cannot drive a vehicle without it, especially at night it is downright dangerous with the douches that put xenons in non projector housings.

My transit has huge mirrors and the week it took me to get my windows tinted I had to drive with sunglasses at night.

Aside from health benefits, it just makes your car look so much better.

Wait....wouldn't that violate the conservative ethic? Less gubment?

The Nissan Juke i had issues with ended up being replaced while i was in Arizona with it. I went to pick up a new one at a Phoenix area dealer. Dealer installed feature was front tinted windows. I have never seen this before and honestly i have never had a dealer offer it as an option.

I havent had tinted windows all the way around since i was a teenager. Man what a difference while driving during the day.

Chicago cops like to take your car keys and scratch your front tints when they "feel" like they are too dark. After dealing with this a couple of times and being fined i just quit putting tints on my front windows.

Personally, I've never liked tinted windows. I always found the darker glass to create more blind spots at night. But I'm probably going to get my windows tinted now

Can you imagine the cop's face if you hand him a doctor's note prescribing you to have the darkest tint possible? My coworker's doctor said she would give him one.

This is true. It's harder for me to see at night anyway and with the tints on the front i have found myself rolling the window down in the rain to make sure i can see the road.

I hardly believe driving from job to job is cause for skin cancer. It is either caused by something unknown to us yet or you are born with a high chance of development. Been in the sun nearly fifty years and I do not have it yet. If you get it from not tinting windows and driving I should developed it decades ago. We need sunlight to produce vitamin D.

I love it but at night in dark areas there's no doubt it cuts your visibility significantly. It also acts as a great dimming solution for non dimming side mirrors.

I was going to reply with that very same statement. After my eye surgery, I actually had that very doctor's note.

In my state, Connecticut, the owner or register user can have this doctor's note. However, it has to be installed by a professional place. (Not your backyard.) Be verified at the DMV. Then you are given a special registration paper to put in your glove box.

When pulled over, just show the cop that paper and then you're on your way. Just so long you weren't pulled over for something else instead.

At least this was back when I had the surgery in 2002. It allowed me a 10% more darkness than the regular legal darkness at the time.

How pale is your friend? Can he tan at all? Or does he turn bright red but not tan at all?

I don't really remember law enforcement caring about doctors notes. Typical stop would be everyone get out of the car and lay down on the ground. One cop watching over you with his gun out while the other rips through your interior looking for weapons of mass destruction. Then a 5 minute period where they decide whether you ran a stop sign or a red light before writing you a ticket. Your tints and subwoofers were fair game. They liked to poke holes in the surrounds. Lucky for me i got my subs from the old guy at the flea market who made and repaired them.

Redheaded from Irish descent. Got it from his dad. His mom and sister can tan dark. His mom though shows the wear from years in the sun, but has no problems.

You must have been pulled over in a bad area my friend.

The last time I was pulled over, I was clocked 69 in a 50, maybe 45. He walks up to my window, asks "Are you such and such?" Using my real name of course. My reply was "Yes sir." I call a lot of people sir, so don't think I was doing it because he's a cop. lol

Anyways. I handed him my insurance and reg. He comes back 3 minutes later. "Slow down please."
