Has anyone run into this? I'm useing a Nec 50mx4a plasma with a sci atl 4200hd. The cable box is conected to the Tv with a component cable when they are listening through the receiver and a DVI when they listen through the TV's speakers. When the tv is powered off the audio outputs of the cable box go dead. This is a problem because the cable box is also a shared source with there multiroom system. I traced back the problem to the DVI conection. When I unplug the DVI at the box or TV end the audio outs of the cable box will immediatly come back on. I think that the problem may have something to do with the HDCP. When i switch the TV to the DVI input I get a message from the cable box that says somthing like, TV can't display HDCP please use component outputs. This message will disapear after 5 seconds and we get a picture. Because the picture will show up I left it conected this way. Does anyone know why this is happening? I know a few ways I can fix this but I would like to understand what is causeing this problem.

If the Plasma is know to be "HDCP Compliant" call the cable company and tell them to reactivate the cable box or give you another one.

From what I've been given to believe by SA tech support, the SA 4200HD cannot have more than 1 output connected at any one time. That may be your problem.

I just got off with sci atl tech support and they told me that this is a designed feature of the box to do this. When the DVI senses that the TV is off it will shut down the box. I don't see a benefit for this design unless they expect people to leave there receivers on all the time and use the TV power as a discrete system off?

P.S- cablevision tech support told me that all audio must first pass through a TV and then go on to a Receiver. They said no audio from a cable box can be heard if the TV is not on. When I told her she has absolutely no idea what she is talking about and asked to speak to someone else she hung up on me. Thanks for your help cablevision I really appreciate it.

I ran into the same problem at a recent job (also Cablevision). We include a tv power off button, for our cable music option, to keep the burn in down.

Decided that component looks great and I wasn't really blown away by the DVI enough to keep it in.

Also DVI prevents the "pass through" option of the 4200HD and you are stuck using the lame aspect ratio's built into the box.

As for the box shutting off with the TV, I can see this being good for heat issues (if it in fact shuts off).

If you call and get someone that doesn't know what their talking about it is best to hang up and try again.

For faster "Human" service when calling choose "pay bill" option on the prompts. You'll be suprised how quickly the will pick up and they can transfer you.
