Another situation was me and my buddy where on our way out to the track in his heavily modified sport truck, 4 link, watts link, spindles, eibach, koni, super charged the real deal.
We were putting on a serious clip on Angeles Crest Hwy and a freekin Toyota P/U with a camper shell and whitewalls and hub caps smokes by us. My buddy gets pissed and try's to catch him. After about a minute of this we are losing ground and I remind him its a couple thousand feet to the bottom on the left hand side.

We get to the track and guess what is in the parking lot, you got it, the Toyota.

Turns out it was one of the drivers. He laughed his ass of at us all weekend.

So, no Veyron?
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."

Porsche must have had a video embargo or something, letting people do them but not release them till a certain time, since suddenly a bunch showed up on the new RS.

It's an incredible automobile, but the maintenance costs scare the crap out of me. $25k for tires, no thanks.

there are wildly better hyper cars than the long in the tooth Veyron. While it is an incredible vehicle no doubt, I would take any of the following vehicles in no order above the Bugatti. Ferrari La Ferrari, McLaren P1, Porsche 918, Pagani Huayra, and probably quickest of all of them the Koenigsegg Agera R. Here is a video of the Agera walking all over the Bugatti in 50KpH rolling starts.

I love supporting product that supports me!

I think I will continue the baby step approach to car buying. Those are all insane cars, just more than I'm willing to spend at the moment. Way too many other business opportunities I could use that kind of money for.

Absolutely spot on! Veryron has never impressed me, its an incredible machine but "eh"

P1 followed by the Koenigsegg followed by the Huayra.

You guys can keep the 918 and La Ferrari (although the la ferrari is arguably the most beautiful car Ferrari has released since the enzo, everything inbeteween has looked cheap and under designed)

Dammit Matt that is way too sensical!

Personally I'm a Porsche guy. Raced them for several years (until kids came along). They are well built, affordable (everything is relative), and can be maintained by an owner with decent mechanical skills. Still wish they were air cooled though....

The new GT3 RS would be at the top of my list (and a Jag XKE Roadster for those vintage days).

Screw it, keep the audi and be happy. Anything more is only going to be minutely better. Send it out for tuning. Unless you just want something new and more unique.

I think that as far as I'd go, in terms of something you could remotely drive on a regular basis, would be the Huracan. It's gorgeous, amazing performance, it's like Viagra on wheels, the sound is incredible, and it's something you could drive around in as long as it doesn't require hauling much stuff.

Things like the P1, 918, LaF, etc... are cars you buy when you already have three or four super-cars in the garage and want some statement pieces. The 918 is probably the only one you'd really want to drive anywhere besides the track, once the "I've got a $(#!in hypercar" rush wore off. The 918 seems far and away the most drivable of the bunch though.

And of course after you have a nice daily driver as well. I love the sound of a Les Paul through a Marshal stack on 11 as much as the next guy, but having one behind your head all day long every day might not be all its cracked up to be. Something like the 458 Speciale, having that screaming thing back there is something you'd probably only want sometimes.

The GT3, OTOH, I think sounds incredibly nice, musical as others have said, even without the muffling option turned on. It's sings, it doesn't yell. The Huracan also, to my ears, as best I can tell not actually ever having been in one, is a sound I could enjoy almost every day I think.

Cars like the Koenigseggs or Huayras of the world, they look cool, but would probably be a pain even for occasional driving on the road. They are wide as tractors. They mostly seem to be bought by collectors who put them in storage to say they have one and leave them there. And they aren't necessarily something you want to take out and thrash on a track on a regular basis either. Same goes for the P1, 918, and LaF. They are one time make cars. You wreck it and even if you are stupid rich, you can't buy another one to replace it. You can always buy another Huracan or GT3 or 650s.

Could you even track day a Huayra in the US? Would it meet noise regulations?

I just hope that I get into a position to buy one such car in my life before I croak, and while I can still go get in it without a walker, before they all go turbo (which may not be very long.)

Matt, after driving the R8, I can say it felt like a daily driver. It's just so easy to drive, comfortable, amd has the quality interior I became accustomed to with Audi. Anything else you get will probably feel like a brute in comparison, even though the R8 has plenty of power. I love the Ford GT and think it's an excellent choice. I really hope you get it and show it off with some great pics here.
