Two things here:
What's your go-to UPS, that also must have surge protection, for a light load? In my client's case, all he really needs to cover is his Blu-ray player, but heck, I'd plug his cable box in there, too. And maybe a larger one so I can plug in the AVR.

Second, can you imagine a way to search this site for "UPS" without getting any results for the word "up"? I just tried it and it seems impossible. I tried

UPS -up

which, according to the rules explained below the search windows, would be interpreted as a search for S. The search engine had mercy on me and told me there were no responses.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

As I posted in your BD player thread, I use Minuteman. They're a bit bulky, so placement may be a problem, but they do work. I use them for camera DVRs, too.

If the AVR isn't being pushed hard, there's no reason to use another UPS, assuming the current capacity isn't reached. They have receptacles for UPS & Surge' and 'Surge Only'. The Enspire series are the ones I have used and the model would be EN-400, EN-600, EN-900, etc.

I googled 'UPS' and Minuteman was on the first page of links. What search engine are you using? 'UPS with surge suppression' might work better.

I believe they handle light loads and heavy loads.

is that what you mean by UPS?  because you didn't properly explain in your first post.

'UPS'- you are referring to 'Uniterruptable Power Supply' and not just a surge suppressor, right?

Why UPS on BD? If it was DVR I could understand it.
Do you also have UPS on the display (TV/PJ)?

Although, "light loads" and AVR are mutually exclusive.

The search engine I am using is highly interactive and often yields responses that the search terms themselves could not possibly locate. It's this forum. Thanks for playing!

Correct.

No UPS at all. Not a system I sold, just helped with the install.

I'd put a surge suppressor on the TV but a UPS on the other equipment.

The reason for a UPS is to keep the Denon DBP-1611UD from going into protection. To be completely accurate, I have no idea whether there's a power problem at all, but if there is, overvoltage or brownouts could be the problem. A UPS with surge suppression covers both. The guy's had two of these BD Players in protection for months (without calling us about it) and I want one visit to give the best options.

Mr. Brad, I'd need a UPS for light loads if I decide to put a UPS only on the BD Player, so I was covering more than one situation in that description. If you read it again you'll see the concept kinda wandered. The idea developed as I wrote.

The EN-400 sells for less than $100, retail. Typical sealed lead/acid battery.

Ernie,

Regarding search...

If you do a search using the search terms: ups -up
You will always get no results, if we assume the search works like Google does. You are searching for postings that include the letters "ups" in a row, and then reducing those results to then delete anything that contains "up", which of course all the results containing "ups" will, which results in no results.

If you wish to use the google search engine to search this site... which I often use... using this in the google search bar "site:www.remotecentral.com ups" will get you postings that include "ups" and should not return any results that only include "up". The "site:" at the beginning restricts results to only that site.

I'm sure you'll proclaim about the manual... so here it is...

Unfortunately the auto word stemming on the forum search likely has difficulty separating the words UPS and up/ups. I'd probably have to make it some kind of specific exclusion.

Note you can also do a Google site-specific search from the whole-site Search page.

I've seen several search engines where you can specify that capitalization matters or doesn't matter. That would do it.

That's cool about google. Maybe that's why some newbies add posts to five year old threads -- a google search found them and they're too new to catch on to the previous post date.

The manual is APPRECIATED!

Another vote for the Minuteman item.

I picked up one and amazingly it works when I'm on generator power where my high dollar Panamax will not.

A small detail that is very important in my own personal system, since I run on generator power once a month for a few hours....
