Playing with a K2, mostly reading the manual so far. It has an infrared eye on the front that can be set to on or off. However, it sounds from reading about it that I can't aim a remote at it and memorize an IR code to add a new remote to the library.

What's the best way to input IR codes into this thing? I don't want to buy an RTI remote just to memorize codes (they mentioned it in the manual).

Also, I've built a demonstrator keypad with a powered computer speaker and an XM radio receiver into one of those metal camera cases. It's a neat way to wow the client with the keypad all lit up...

Can I just hook a single flasher to the IR output on the back to go to the front of the XM? I want to do simple logos and channel changes.

Thanks for the input.

Learning was added in one of the first Firmware updates. It lears the same way the RTI Does, you get into the Menu/Setup screen by holding the left/right arrows for about 5 seconds or so.

Yes, you can hook an emmitter right to the IR and Ground outputs of the keypad.

It is NUTS how far you have to be away from the keypad to learn.

Watch out if you connect an IR to the keypad during learning. When you learn the command, the IR emits, so if it is in the wrong position you will create IR feedback. Really.

By the way, we ARE talking about the Sonance K2, right? I never caught the actual brand name....
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Yes, Sonance K2. RTI - like programming software. They wrote it for Sonance according to all. It's a nice and easy drag & drop style. I like it so far.

I think the one I like THE best so far is the Xantech drag'n'drop for the URC-2P. It's really the champ as far as I'm concerned.

Down the list a ways is Pronto Edit.

yeah - you need to be about 5 feet away for reliable codes - easy to work with. go to rti's site and get their cml code list.

Well, it is NOT easy to work with if you want to check that your codes have been learned correctly, because you can only check the codes immediately after learning and before moving on to the next code.

So you have to get up and walk over to the K2 to push the buttons and test it.

I got cocky once ( moi? )and figured since the first ten were perfect, to heck with checking them...then found three bad ones some time later.

PLUS you have to somehow hold up a device meant to be mounted into a wall box. I bought a little aluminum Zero Box ripoff and dedicated one of these to learning only, just so I would not have loose wires all over the place, or have to reassemble a kluge every time.

If you need files for your K2, I have one of the largest K2/T2 libraries available for download. The file is 1.2 Megs zipped and unzips to 9.1 Megs. Just click on the bottom button. At the following site.

I have run into a few bad codes in this list from time to time, but for the most part it’s a great resource to draw from.

RTI,
Does this replace my user library or is it in addition to the main + user library (I think I have that right)?

In the K2 infrared library manager, hit the ctrl and i keys, this will open up an import dialog box, select the file you downloaded and unzipped. This will merge the downloaded file with your current library; it will ask you if you want to replace a bunch of files, click NO. When it’s done it will show you a list of all of the remotes that were added to your code list. Save this list under a new name.

Another question: Knowing the NaviDock makes a single keypad fly and realizing 6 keypads work great multisourcing with a Navigator Harbor....

Can 2 or 3 K2's all connect to one NaviDock? I know one source would feed all rooms, but would it work for the functionality of it?
