Has anyone had any success controlling the LSS-3200A via RS-232 with either AMX/Crestron? I have a command set from Zenith/LG and I have communication with my port on my NI-3000 but I'm not getting any control. Called Zenith and was told this was just a "data" port and not a "control" port but heard that same story about the Sony SAT-HD200/300, but RS-232 codes magically appeared anyway and worked.

Any help would be appreciated

I have the RS-232 codes from my rep for the LSS-3200. I will e-mail the to you if you like. We don't do alot of Crestron, so I have not personally used them. It couldn't hurt to try them.

I have been playing around with serial control for this piece, as many have. I think everybody has come to the conclusion that there are alot of features that can be control and alot that can't. The people that are using serial communications are building a hybrid serial and IR system to hit all that is available. This is the same as the Sony SatHD300 piece. I have shelved the project for right now, if you find anything please post. Thanks

digitlife ...

Thanks for the info. I'm assuming you had some success with SOME commands from Zenith/LG with this or you know of people who have? My problem right now is that I cant get ANY commands to execute based on what I have received from them. I know my cable, baud, etc, etc. are correct but nada.

If I receive any info, I'll be sure to pass on what I find out if its good.

thanks again.

Greg

We probably have the same set of codes as I got them directly from LG....but I would appreciate you sending them to me anyway!

Thanks and I'll let you know if they are different just for grins

I just sent you some worked up documentation. I have a code module that wouldn't be of any use to you, but let me know if what I sent you doesn't help and I will break down the code for you.

Sorry, my mistake. I only have the RS-232 codes for the Zenith HD-520.

I have just got the RS-232 codes from my Zenith/LG rep. I have sent them out to AMXPurist & Dave Richardson. I have not tried them myself. I'll be glad to send them out to anybody that needs it.

I left an e-mail and a voice mail for my factory contact mid last week for these codes and haven't gotten a reply as of yet.

I am really interested in any discrete aspect settings that I can use to send 4x3 out though the component video output for non-HD programs.
Some of the networks have chosen widescreen format with letterbox bars in a 4x3 image (AMC, Fox Sports Net and Bravo) for a lot of their programming, which is not HD.

These images are then flagged as non-HD and pillar bars are automatically applied, because the image remains 16x9 from the component output, and the resulting tiny image from a letterbox within pillar bars is what prompted the call back.

I would like to use the Faroudja to create a quasi-anamorphic 16x9 image from letterboxed 4x3 images.

Ideally, I want to create single button macros for the client to let him automatically apply the correct processing to the image with the least amount of trial and error or endless HDTV 101 lessons on my part for this non-techno client.

The only solution I have arrived at so far is to use the S-video output, which will never place the pillar bars and always remain 4x3, as a second input on the Faroudja, and create a switching macro.

I'm afraid the client won't remember to go back to the HD input when he is watching HD programs, and the sat receiver will apply letter box to the scaled down widescreen image and then the Faroudja processor will scale them like any other letterbox image from the S-video input making a mess of the image quality and ultimately making me wish I had installed a regular sat box instead of a high def box for this client.

In this application I have the processor with all of the discrete aspect commands, and in other applications, I would still rather have the internal scaler in the TV or projector doing it to provide a consistent operation for the client.

Anyone have any different suggestions on setting this up??
Or, maybe a lead to a more intelligently designed HD receiver that can be operated day-to-day by users other than us techno geeks??

Side note,
Greg C, I just sent you an email to the address on your profile, I absolutely appreciate you generosity in sharing the serial commands which are obviously kept close to the vest by LG...

Thanks in advance.

Rick,
If you post me your email address I can get you all set up. Also, what control platform are you using. I might have some prebuilt stuff that would work for you.

Digitlife,
I sent you an e-mail to the address on your profile.

This client fought tooth and nail against the price of a wireless touchpanel on the advice of a dealer in Florida that did his winter home with a color pronto, so he has a color Pronto w/ RF (I wouldn't back down on that) and the Faroudja that he desperately wanted that has now proven practically worthless without full serial control.
I have already conceded that I will put in a Xantech IRS-232 module for the additional functionality.

I have worked with this Xantech piece in the past to make a Fireball operate reliably with K2 keypads. The Escient IR codes didn't work reliably for a long time so I went serial with the Xantech box, which is bulletproof.
