Help anyone! I purchase 6 ben-q plasmas on a steal from a reseller in Wa. all 6 are installed. can't get my stand-by simple learning remote SL-9000 to communicate with the tv's remote. I have talked to ben-q's tech support and there is no IR code for the unit. Any ideas guys on a remote that can conquer my problem without going RS 232? HELP. Thanks, Adam

I do a lot with a few remotes and do not recognize the SL-9000. What brand is that?
Pretending for a moment it is a Pronto, or Marantz, or even MX-whatever,
when you try to learn a command, what happens? Do you get FAIL (I would call this "Doesn't communicate right) or do you get no response at all (I would call this "can't get to communicate")?
We guess, I guess, that since the BenQ is a low-price item, it probably does not have an RF remote, right?

I have talked to ben-q's tech support and there is no IR code for the unit. This statement makes no sense. Did the TV's come with Remotes or not? If they came with remotes, you should be able to learn it into the SL-9000, if it didnt, then myabe you bought Static Display panels. Sometimes a "Steal" isnt really a steal. What is the actualy model number of the Displays?

Larry, I will bet that the YES above is an answer to this question: On 03/19/04 15:34, masterpiece audio said...
Any ideas guys on a remote that can conquer my problem without going RS 232? The first time I read this thread, I was tempted to answer "yes" and let it go at that. It is hard not to be smug when seeing a question like this, but then we all have been bitten by "deals," haven't we? Or is that the actual subject of this thread now?

Adam,
I think you're going to need a better learning remote, the SL-9000 was never a great learner. I would try a Philips remote, Pronto or ProntoNeo, they tend to be among the best learners. There is a working command set for BenQ projectors in Pronto fromat in the files area of this site. If you do get the commnads learned into a Pronto, you can import those commands to some of the higher end Home Theater Master products. It is also likely that some of the folks in the One4All forums could help you, with the use of a UEI remote and a JP1 cable.

Adam,
There is a working command set for BenQ projectors in Pronto fromat in the files area of this site. I noticed that too, but figured that the actual OEM for the plasma was probably not the same OEM as the projectors, so there is little hope that the same codes will work. This is seen in other brands, too, and I just don't think the titanic international network of BenQ MegaProduction Facilities will have united on an IR standard for all products.

I don't think that the commands for the projector will work the plasma set either, but it is an indicator that the command structure can be learned by Pronto (assuming those are similar). I'm fairly certain that BenQ is their own OEM for these two products. They own manufacturing facilities in Malaysia, Mexico, China, and Taiwan. jcmitch [Link: benq.com]
