Is there a cheap way to buy-in to Crestron? I would love to become a dealer but don't want to shell out the cash.

Call your Crestron regional REP...they will OCCASIONALLY refer you to a dealer in your area, and instruct the dealr to offer you a discount until you get your feet wet...but it's all still closely tracked!

Along this topic, I have a similar question:
A friend of mine would like to get his 'feet wet' with a crestron system on a job he is bidding. He is primarily an electrician, but has recently changed careers after many years as an embedded hardware/software engineer (C, C++, ASM, ASICs, etc). I know he can learn Crestron programming quickly, but my question is this - Not having an existing account with Crestron, nor any experience with Crestron, how quickly do you think he can become a dealer, and given his background, how quickly can he learn the programming. It's not a money question, as the client is building a 14K sq ft house with amenities, just a timing question.
Any recommendations on who to call. I called the local rep who has not returned my call after two days.
Thanks,
-LNB

In order to become a Crestron dealer he would typically need to have been in business for a while and have a history that shows he could sell Crestron projects. One potential project usually won't do it. You need to understand this from Crestrons viewpoint - they get calls all day every day from dealers that want to sign on - many because they have ONE job they know they could sell.

If I were your friend I would certainly call them, but it sounds like he may need to partner up with another dealer.

LAte Night Bill,

I would suggest that your friend purchase a MP2EPAk with the TPS1700 screen the learn to program and see if this is the direction he wants to go. I wouldn't waste Time with Crestron until he is sure this is what he wants to own himself and potentially program and install for others.
He will need and established electronics business and a "buy in" to be established by the rep, if the territory is even available.
Email me if you have any further questions.
I may be schizophrenic, but at least I have each other.
