Make a Wiki out of it Wesley and let others participate to create major city Spreadsheets that would be more accurate. You did have a good start.
I may be schizophrenic, but at least I have each other.

What if you want real HD?

Yes, i can see some of the shows I watch via Hulu, but its not the same quality.

We don't have cable. We pay $65/mo for our Internet and $12/mo for Tivo Service. I use an off air antenna and get "basic" (pretty much just discovery, unless I got a crappy little box) cable included with my internet service.

I'm sure there would be shows on Cable that I would wathc, but I already feel like I waste too much time watching TV just with the major networks and Discovery.

I couldn't really get your form to work for me, but my situation may be sku'd since I don't really have cable.

cjoneill, what ideas do you have to improve it? how could it be done better?

GotGame, how do I keep control of the direction of the spreadsheet without it growing legs and running off if I set up a wiki? or is that your point?

cma, it has to do with the number of channels you reported you had versus what you reported you watch out of that list of channels. nothing's broken in the spreadsheet.

sofaking, whatever each web service decides to put out for their format is up to them. I think it would be an advantage to compile a list of channels along with what format & resolution they make available on the Internet. it would probably take the knowledge of each show and its resolution from each web service individually (i.e. House may be available in SD on Hulu, Amazon, and Netflix, but in HD on Hulu Plus, Amazon, and iTunes)

in order to get the web services' attention, it may take petition to have HD for more shows than they currently offer.

Wesley,

So tell us, how are you progressing on your first idea? You've still got my attention!

So this is the famous Wesley......

Mark, this probably means you can skate for a few days without anyone attacking your project.

The man you used to love

I don't see how it will help you to lead this foray by reminding us, using sarcasm, of what a PITA your previous expedition out of reality was.

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. I have a new item to proof for all of you.

To proof?

Before I go any further, how did that wiring idea of several years ago pan out?

After you fill in the information, go back through the tabs once again to see the results. I have yet to find anyone who uses more than 5% of their available cable TV programming, which means that cable is a >95% waste of money.

That is not true. Let's say I can smoehow magically change to some other service with twice the channels at half the price -- then I'd be wasting 97.5% of my money, but I'd be able to watch exactly the same channels I'm watching now.

In other words, that 95% statistic is meaningless.

Let's say I get my cable company to get rid of all the channels I don't want, but they won't lower the price. Then I would not be wasting a single percent of my money, but I wouldn't be paying any less. See how simply solving the "95% waste of money" problem is absolutely no guarantee of an improvement?

Read the book "Bad Science."

Let me know if there are CONSTRUCTIVE improvements that can be made to this spreadsheet.

I agree that the improvement would have to be a complete listing of everything that exists. You can't choose the best thing if you don't have all the choices in front of you.

And if you want to know my formulas, buy my book instead.

You mean, if I get the free spreadsheet, I won't see the formulas when I look at certain cells?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Wesley and Mark, power house combo. They will soon have every home in the country with the exact same system and they will pay little to nothing for it.
I love supporting product that supports me!

Wesley's plan is another "grabbing for the brass" ring kind of thing and probably way ahead of what is availble to be completely viable, but got to give him kudos for putting it out in front of you guys knowing he would get ripped.
For me, it's nice to finally see the real Wesley in action with his peer group.
