A little sceptical...I talked to a few installers at CES...the offsite location where they had the "high end" audio...I see them as speakers that are super inexpensive install easily but the bottom line with anything in this world is you get what you pay for. This is more true with "cheap" things...in our universe the really really expensive things are just a total waste of money but by and large a $20 speaker sounds just like that. With audio there are so many nuiances that are hard to pick up on if you are a fresh ear.

avdude - if you want to try some speakers that are worth every penny look into PSB. These guys are all about audio.

I'm always wanting to plug my buddies at Bay Audio. We are still in love with these speakers and the program and people behind them. AND if you are still looking for that vacation AVDude, the training in San Diego is awfully cool too.

I heard so many speakers at CEDIA that they began to blend together... TRU Audio did not stand out but I probably didn't give them much time.

I didn't go to CEDIA. Could you actually hear in walls there? If so that would be the most amazing thing I've ever heard. Actually being able to listen to an inwall speaker before you buy it...what a concept!

I was very hesitant to have anything to do w/ them, the last thing we needed was another loudspeaker company, already doing business w/ both Sonance and SpeakerCraft (and Bay Audio, put in our evaluation pair of Bay 885's this week, finally the speaker we have been waiting for...). Anyway, as a favor to a friend in the sales rep business I met w/ the folks at TruAudio and we are testing a few loudspeakers. Having experience w/ the Chinese manufacturer of OWI and a good number of other really inexpensive loudspeakers, these aren't those. The build quality is on par with the efforts of a SpeakerCraft or Sonance, which makes sense as the founding partners are ex Sonance employees. All of the right bits are there, good rough-in-frames, cams that work, paint covers, blank ot kits etc. The sound is fairly good as well, certainly on par with other speakers in its range. I imagine they will have a bit of success, especially in regions where the other lines are already wrapped up.

Well, I can't call it actually listening... more like trying to discern what was audio and what was floor noise.

So what did you think of the 885s jcmitch? We think they rock... a level above anything else we've heard in that price range... I'd be interested in others input though.

I just think it's AMAZING how something I posted more than 2 months ago SUDDENLY came back...if only an attempt to boost ones numbers (although the frontrunning podt seems to be from a new member who actually knows his shit!)

Anywho,
I have written off TruAudio, opting for TRIAD, KEF and NILES (listed here from highest to lowest) if someone needs or requires REAL Crap...I am also offering MTX and PhaseTech (although I actually kinda like PhaseTec, as they fill several unique niches, and dont sound all that bad!)

thanks guys!

TruAudio is basically trying to become another Sonace/Speakecraft and are trying to directly compete with these two companies. They have good mid range products and are working on higher end stuff.

In my geographic area they have good support. The president is an ex-custom installation guy who understands the business. As previously mentioned, he usually knows about any problems and is quick to correct them. I really like their air tight back box solution which works well for retrofits/installations in insulated ceilings (an issue where I live.

My other choice would be Bay Audio.

I don't know what the fantasy is with Sonance and Speakercraft. I will admit I haven't heard the latest series of Speakercraft as I used them once on an install and will never again.

I think TruAudio has fulfilled a specific niche. You could put those things in production homes all day long in the midwest and people would be totally stoked. I do hope they come out with some higher end speakers soon...I would love another good inwall with some serious profit margin!

I did talk to a TruAudio guy at EHX last year and he was totally cool...if the support is as good as everyone says I will give them a shot once they come out with a higher end model.
