I have a question.

What brands of gear do most of you carry and perfer sell? Break it down into two catagories.

* Mid Level

* High Level

We made the switch for the most part last year to stop buying most gear through distribution. Since than we picked up Sonance, Speakercraft, Traid, Screenplay, and Draper as well as having Crestron, and Audio ReQuest. We have not pick up a Receiver line. Iv been buying and installing HK and Dennon for a while now, and the product is good. No real complaints. But i want to offer somthing that your average electrican cant walk in and buy from there security distributor.

I Talked to NAD yesturday and they would be interested in giving me the line. There are only 2 dealers in my saturated area. I tried to get Integra but there are 3 dealers in the area, and the rep was concerned. I put a call into Yamaha and await to hear from them. What are my other choices? I need a line that offers alot of flexibilty with product (not just 1 or 2 receivers) but the whole lines from DVD-7.1. Onkyo is sold through B&M so im gonna try to stay away from it. Any other sugjestions of a good line?

How about that "Newcastle / Sherwood" stuff? Is it any good ??? [Link: sherwoodamerica.com]

BTW - IP.com will be back as soon as the Broadband is installed in the new office.

Brijaws,

Still sorry abou missing you at CEDIA... we were watching 3D porn while you and avdude were at dinner.

Integra and Integra Research will sustain you for just about everything. Onkyo is at Circuit Shitty and A few other local whore stores and we have'nt been the least bit affected. if you can get a rep to open you up you will be VERY happy with Integra. E-mail me personally and I'll tell you more.

Kraco car stereo speakers in custom 2x4 wood mount sitting on the rear deck of my car. No need to dress up as I like to show them off as-is.

I've got you outclassed with my Dr. Crankenstein's.

http://www.drcrankenstein.net/

p.s. Somewhere there is actually a car speaker manufacturer called Dr. Crankenstein, but that's not their web site.

jaws...

for what it's worth....

mid....NAD, Onkyo, Marantz, Yamaha, Denon, and B&K....my pref being NAD and B&K

high...Lexicon, Meridian, Krell, EAD, Boulder, Ayre, Theta Digital, SimAudio (Moon), Classe`, etc...

More importantly, you need to define the price points you consider "mid" and "high"

IMO I think Proceed is the coolest around. I would have it if I could get it in my area, Mid fi just take what's available Yamaha, Denon, etc. doesn't seem to matter too much.
How hard can this be?

We have been trying to implement the same policy regarding lines available to the trunk slammers. We are currently carrying:

Yamaha - It's a demand line and establishes the fact that our prices are the same as The Good Guys on same product.

Pioneer Elite - Good alternative, and matches with their Video Product. - Exclusive to us in our area.

Integra - Also Great stuff and not available locally OR ON THE NET !!

Rotel - Also Great Stuff with a marketing tie-in with B&W Speakers.

We also chose these lines because they offer top-down selling, unlike many other lines where it's either separates or nothing, or mid level but nothing better without having to change to a different brand.

Here are some brands that we no longer carry and why:

Anthem - nice stuff, but no top down selling. (Too bad they don't make a Receiver.)

B&K - Sounds good when it works. We have had about a 50% failure rate with their stuff. The response from the factory - "Hey, you buy a Ferrari for performance, not reliability" - Our answer to that - " Hey, I pay $4000.00 for a receiver, it should work. - See ya!"

Denon - Nice Stuff - Too bad everyone can get it. Now that Yamaha will upconvert video and does 7.1 - Bye Bye.

Soverign - This one's on the bubble. We only keep it around because they have DVD management. This will probably change when Escient releases their new DVD manager in November. Nice people to do business with, but the line is almost 3 years old with no model changes ever.

My advice - find brands that have some depth and breadth in their line, and keep the number of brands to a minimum. Better to give greater support and develop deeper relationships with fewer vendors than to carry a whole bunch of stuff and not commit to any of them.
