asjank,

The 2808CI of old was the 1st to offer this. It followed into the 2809CI and now the new 3310CI and higher models.

As always there are stipulations to the function of this, please see below.

HDMI wil lnot work for the Multi Zone ouput. (HDCP)
Coax or Fiber Optic will, but the signal is limited to a 2ch Digital PCM. The Multi Channel Bitstream is copy protected.

So Coax and Fiber Optic with a 2ch Dig PCM signal will work on the 2808CI and higher/newer models.

Hope this is helpful.

Howdy Matt,
Not to jump on the bandwagon but training last week was very good. Traffic, not so good.

Thank you and your welcome.

Any sign of the big truck full of 3310CI's yet? About to deliver a proposal including one.

3310CI are beginning to ship this week and next week.

Also, the feature set posted on the CI site for the 3310 describes (generally) a separate multi zone remote. Will it have a Zone 2/3 toggle to allow discrete volume (pre-amp gain) and source select for each zone?

Yes, but the remote is IR only. May I suggest adding on a seperate programmable remote?

The customer is universal remote (not the brand, but the concept) phobic. Wants to pick up 3-5 remotes, really. Having a separate mutli zone controller would work well for him. So he says...

May I suggest a support group for the universal remote phobia? LOL! As many of us know the remote is only as good as the design of the program. I think if shown a better option the customer would realize the value and ease in a upgraded remote.

You are preaching to the choir brother. I produced a fine (if I do say so myself) effort on an MX450 for his legacy system (built around an AVR4800 and Pioneer rear pro BTW). His Network administrator, office manager, son and daughter all use it and gave my effort props and he wants to argue about how it is easier to pick up each remote and issue discrete commands sequentially.
When confronted with this type of situation my default mode is MUTE ARGUMENT and AGREE w CUSTOMER ;).

Thanks again.
Doug

Just installed a Denon AVR-790 today. Customer had an older plasma but though I would have him be ready for better HDMI switching.
Keep in mind, at least with this model, it does not put out an onscreen display over component. Also I do not think it converts to component, just to HDMI. Not a big deal but just a note.
My main concern supprised me. It seems to share the same remote code set with the AM/FM Radio and Sirius Tuner inside. I don't remember seeing this in past models.
My customer has a 2-zone setup, Family room and Kitchen. Using an MX-900 with radio station presets and Sirius Direct presets in the remote. If the Sirius is selected in the main zone, and FM radio is in Zone 2, it won't select tuner presets in zone 2, (A-1, A-2, A-3). It controls presets on the Sirius not the fm tuner.
I think the same thing happens vise versa if the tuner is selected in the main room and Sirius is in zone 2. I have presets for Sirius in the MX-900 as well, but am using the Direct button instead which I don't think affects the FM tuner.

I was a little bummed by that. I will be returning to the customers house tomorrow for review.
I have been using the same Denon radio preset codes for years.
I will check to see if there are other code sets that will work independent of one another.

Does anyone else have other code sets for Sirius and fm radio presets for Denon?

Liked the receiver other than that.
Sometimes you just have to figure it out for yourself!

Hey Matt... Any chance you could get someone to upload a .PDF of the 2310 manual to Denon's website that is not encrypted with a password for printing? I can print a 3310 manual, but not a 2310. My 2310 arrives next week and going through the manual will help pass the time... Thanks!

Am I the only one who is a little bit disappointed with the new Denon receiver line up?

For instance, the 3310 is $300 more than the 2809 it replaces, and as far as I can tell the major advantages it offers are an extra HDMI input (good), a slightly better amp section (ok), ethernet connectivity (ok) and better video processing (my understanding is that if one is using hi-def sources this isn't a big deal). However, it has less processing power so it has a less powerful version of Audyssey than the 2809. IMO Audyssey can make a drastic improvement in most rooms so I'm baffled as to why Denon would scale back in this area and bump up some things that (to me, at least) are of less importance.

Seems to me that that the 3310 should offer everything the 2809 had and more given the $300 price increase and extra development time.

It should be up this week. I was going to email it to you, then I noticed that it is a 30MG file.

I will need another week before I can sit down in my office and test some of my commands. I will post my findings.

Don't forget Remote Access, PC Setup/Save and Load, Control over IP, Network Party mode (to be used with new products coming this fall)

I do agree that MultEQ vs XT is a small step back. But having Audyssey EQ in the product is still a step in the right direction considering the other upgrades that have been added.

Seems to me that that the 3310 should offer everything the 2809 had and more given the $300 price increase and extra development time.

Matt what would you rather have in your personal system, a 4808 or a 4310?

i Sorry I meant 4308 or 4310. I am Audyssey certified and I plan on doing the pro upgrade if that make a difference. I have used the 4308 as our go to receiver and have been very pleased with the results. I need a receiver for my personal system and dont want to spend the extra money if its not worth the investment.

Ok, That being said let's take a look.

The 4310CI is the replacement for the 3808CI, so hopefully this gives you a reference point.

The pros for the 4308CI:
The amps are a little more robust
Better dacs
more discrete power supplies
discrete HD tuner
Wi Fi

The pros for the 4310CI:
Step up in video processing
DPLIIz
Audyssey DSX
more advanced network feature set
more HDMI inputs
iPod direct connect (usb)

I am sure there are a few things I am over looking, but this should give you a starting point.

So does this mean there is a replacement for the 4308CI in the works? What will that offer in the above mix?

The 43 replacement will be on a different scale. Larger chassis, more channels.... Not much I can release at the moment.
