This reminds me of haggling with a GM dealer on the price for a new auto. Their invoice included a charge for advertising that they wouldn't remove. I let them know that advertising brings in sales dollars, and is something that needs to come out of their profits. Just because he prints, "$600 - Gucci loafers to make sales guy look good" doesn't mean it's a fair charge. I voted with my feet, and walked away from the deal, just as I hope our legislators walk away from more bailouts.

Sorry, but payment to enter a contest, sounds ripe for corruption to me.

Guys it $299! It pays for the contest. I highly doubt they are taking donations from vendors to buy votes.

It's a trade journal. I'd be less concerned with a CI firm buying its award then I would be manufacturers purchasing "good press" since it is manufacturer advertising that pays the freight. Yet no one ever complains about this. Ever read a bad review in any audio or video magazine? Most trade magazines reprint press releases without any fact checking or editorial oversight.

299*400 entries is about 120k. In Texas is 120K sufficient to sell your integrity? At least on Wall Street it took 100s of billions of dollars for the Devil to win his souls. These awards, in my experience don't bring in business but help you to clinch any business you have brought in by other means. It provides a bona fide that your firm can deliver on its promises. It is a key closer not a business generator. On the other hand it is a major ego boost and I'd never undersell the size of any one's ego, particularly, if one is from Texas. I know that in NY this ego loves to see his name in print. I am less enthusiastic when I see my picture, though. Some things are best kept hidden and my image is one that could be placed on in corn fields to keep the crows away.

I just added to my bucket list....

I want to win an award in EH mag, and I want mine and Alan's picture to be in it!

Title would read... "the worlds greatest home done by the most unlikely of teams. A New York Elitist, and a Southern Jar Head."
