Ok Let me clarify.... we haven't done a remote for her... yet. It looked like it was TOAD, sorry! If I am wrong then great.... but the picture still looked not so great.

Nothing wrong with the install, my guess is the tv or the Dish HD DVR. Out of the box (torch modes turned off) the Toshiba's we have been using look better. Most recently I think the 42HL176. And those are TOADS.... "Input", #4 for comp. 1.

On TVs where there are discretes, it's about time that
you can turn off the tuner.

This would be great.... no more Channel up, input, input, input. Had to use that work around for a Panasonic PT-61LCZ70. Why can't everyone just buy a Fujitsu or insert fav brand with full discreets.

Steve, that's treally funny.

You didn't give us the model number.

Yeah, I know Ernie. I admit I totally spaced. I even got a call the next day from a buddy that was having the same problem and I didn't even note it then.

You know, it would be great to have a section here with confirmed toads now that the industry is doing some regressing.

Anyway, I'll keep track next time.
Manuals?! We don't need no stinking manuals! a.. er..

That sounds like sarcasm, being oh, great, now we can't even use the workaround I had to do the other day...taking it that way:

I am DEFINITELY NOT advocating getting rid of Channel + goes to TV Tuner!

What I really want is versatility, a TV with discretes, where you can also SKIP inputs (Sony's term), including the tuner input, and I don't think any brand does that.

If I had a situation where there were no discretes, I would sure want channel up to give me the tuner so I could build a workaround macro!

If I had a situation like last week where a client didn't want a programmed remote for a TV with a cable box and a DVD player, where 99% of the time he watches TV, I'd want to be able to SKIP the tuner. This particular client also has a VCR for the hundred tapes he still has (and will never watch). His new Sony 46" XBR5, that has I think seven inputs, is now set to Tuner, Video 1, Component 1, and HDMI 1. His stuff can use all of those except Tuner, but I can't SKIP it. I've skipped Video 2, Component 2, and HDMI 2...maybe another one or two, too. SKIP is even helpful when you don't have discretes because then the workaround can be shorter.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Sorry, I was agreeing with you that we should have the ability to turn off the turner input. When I said great, I meant when I go back and program up a remote the TV has disctreets. Easier for me.

I'll check with a friend at Sony who deals with this sort
of stuff to see if there's anything known on the M3000's.

That would be awesom cause WallyWorld is flinging them out by the pallet load here for 10% under cost.

You can't make skip the tuner in a TV because of the sad number of people who, on Christmas morning, will go right to it, disable it, then go back to WalMart crying that the whole TV is broken.
Guess we take for granted that most people who buy pretty much any TV ..just take it out of the box and hook it to the thing on the wall.

I talked to Steve the other day about the problem with the Bravia. I must have been on crack the first day I tried to automate the thing. The second time I went over there, I did find codes that worked with that TV. I have about 6 or 7 discretes that work very well with that monitor.

The word is... if you want discrete codes, don't go for the M3000 series.

You're saying, I think, that they will hook up the TV, or try to hook it up. then they'll open up the menu and look for the place where you assign different names to the inputs, where one of the choices is to skip the input. They'll choose to skip the tuner. It took me a few minutes to find this in the new Sony I was working with, and I knew what I was doing and what I was looking for.

Oh, yeah, then these people will think the TV is broken. I disagree.

But you just said they'll go deep into the menu and make a sophisticated choice about how they want the inputs to be named and/or used.

I don't follow you.

Sorry...had to reference this thread recentlty. Ernie, I'm not talking about you. Of course you know what YOU are doing! Im talking your average going to Wally World to buy a TV Joe who , I guarantee, somewhere in the world, will get themselves into this part of the menu, turn off the tuner (perhaps thinking they are skipping a channel or something) then never be able to get back to that part of the menu to switch it back on. Sad but true.

Dumb consumer retuns product to store and nobody at the store can figure it out......TV finds its way back to the distributor....somebody doesn't make the money they could have....Sony gets badmouthed by consumer.
It's not worth the risk to ba e able to disable the tuner, even if it is just one moron out of every hundred that buys the TV that does this, but I guarantee it happens.
