Hooked up 2 5.1 systems and a 4 zone DA sytem in one of my Microsoft Buddies' new house (about 5k sqft).

Pretty straight forward for the main system 57" toshiba, Comcast HDDVR and Denon DVD1730 (wired HDMI direct to the TV per customer's request), along with a Yamaha RXV659, Russound R275HC, and a JAMO JSS4-HP. Customer declined a quality power conditioner and is using a $10 white power strip...even better before I began work on this room/main living level, they blew the breaker, and could not get it fixed because the breaker was believed to be faulty (as diagnosed by the builders project manager).

used an 12 ft heavy duty extension cord for power for now (builder said it could be upto 10 days before their electrical contractors could get to it).

Second 5.1 system was a 52" JVC, RXV659, magnavox DVD, Comcast HDDVR, Panasonic VCR, a CD changer and then the fun stuff: original NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Original Playstation, and an XBOX. I am not proud of how I had to wire it to all work, but I was impressed that I got it all working (9 sources, 1 wired through the VCR, and 3 through the TV, while the rest were run through the Receiver)

The DA system was wired rather interestingly as well, but at least the initial contractor had run 16/4 for av to vc, and then 16/2 from vc-spkr's. except that they wing nut connected all 4 leads of each color together and then a short jumper to a 1pr speaker plate with a load of about 1.2ohms, so I had to take care of that and change all the VC settings as well as some were set to 2-3ohms while two were (I thinking shorting out and) ranging between 20 and 66 ohms so all the control wiring had to be cleaned up as well.

Problem with this system is was that they had their drainage/sewage system backed up the night before and they believed it was contained to the bathroom and hallway...unfortunately it continued to seep under their carpet to the area where the above system was installed, so we had to dismantle it and move it out of the way so that the treatment people can dry/sanitize the area including removing the carpet.

I felt bad, and thought thank goodness i'm not stanley as some how all their problems might have been my fault (jk). For them these were only three of about 20 problems they had to deal with in the past week since moving in.

I will get some pictures once the house is actually in order for now they are still moving in.

I went back to this builders' home... His electrician did some creative wiring... mec to vc to 1st pair of speakers... from one of the speakers is an extra 4 conductor that jjumps to another pair of speakers, and from that pair of speakers another 4 conductor going to another pair of speakers.

The builder supplied all of his own speakers (the cheapest ones I've ever seen, even though this is like a 3 or 4 million dollar house :>( so basically I'm just being a labor monkey.

There are 3 pair of ceiling speakerrs in high ceilings (20 ft.)... all that they had at the site were a couple rickety 16 foot 3 legged ladders... I attempted to cut in a pair of speakers from that ladder, but it was so wobbly I almost lost my balance a couple of times, so I chickened out on installing them for now...

Sitting here at a Starbucks, getting chatted up by some lady.

Crap, my laptop battery is running out. Later, dudes.

Is Stephen back in Ratt?? IMO, Ratt were one of the best of the 80s metal bands from that SoCal scene...

I too enjoyed Ratt.

Turns out my cousin (who grew up in San Diego) had a huge party when his parents were gone... band, booze, dope, etc.... majorly busted by the cops and my aunt and uncle. The band was called Mickey Rat... Disney interfered when they got bigger so they changed the name to Ratt.

Ahl... if you speak to Stephen ask him if he remembers this and a classmate with the initals DG.

Oh... and in order to not hijack the thread... I worked in my yard all day in between watching the Live Earth concerts.

Today I'm getting ready to go to the ceremony for rolling out the new Boeing "Dreamliner" jet. Overall a remarkable airplane --- the cheapest jet ever to fly and maintain. Body is made out of plastic composites, and the interior air system has increased humidity and stuff for the passengers.

A pretty big & amazing event. Perfect weather today too! Got the invitations from my friend who did the graphics and junk for the invitations.

Some joker dropped a gallon of white deck paint on the road near my house and my freshley painted red GMC truck ran right through it. I spent the last 3 hours cleaning it off. Covered the driver side front to back, tires and all. In case any nof you get lucky enough to find some fresh (not latex ) paint to drive through, the Gunk brand Bug and Tar remover in the aeresol can works good.

This morning (Sun) went and sold 10 remotes on a 100+ foot mega yacht. Olmost had the go with 10T2c w/9 rp6's but the budget fell short and were using mx900's. Client can stand his Harmony's.

Today i accidentally erased all the photo's in my phone including the ones i had just taken before leaving the house i was working in. Photo's were of nice plasma lifts in joinery, Crestron screen layouts and the automated theatre with lifts. Bummer really as i probably wont be back there for a while. We completed the job a few months ago and i was just there to make a couple of minor additions. Overall it was about a 500K job.
Oh well!

Simon.

Just make sure you put on a new coat of wax in those areas.
