I put together another quick video showing automated shades and TV lift from a recent project. Really low-tech… shot on my iPhone 5s using available light and my ladder and some duct tape for a tripod.

Shot all the video angles in about 10 minutes, and spend an hour or so editing in Adobe Premier.

For the most part just a mix of URC & RTI.  I'm doing lots of HomeWorks & RA2 so while not really a control system, I am doing simple integration there for all on/off, home/away type macros that control lighting, shading and all the A/V in the house.

I spent a little more time on the video cleaning up some transition and adding narration.  Just replay the same video link above if you're interested to see the changes.

Tried to update a Marantz RC5200 for an existing client. Did not connect even with my Keyspan USB to serial adapter. Hafta get my old Dell/XP/serial port out of storage to update it.

Yes, I did show him NEW remotes!

What's the benefit of updating an old clunker like a 5200. Didn't even know you could update one that old.
I guarantee I'll tell you the truth and I guarantee I'll tell you what you need to know but I can't guarantee that I'll be telling you anything you want to hear.

Well, fortunately, or perhaps unfortunately, it still works. Sometimes it takes a couple presses with the finger on the touchscreen to get it to fire, but the client is content, so who is to argue?

Doing old pronto based remotes is nostalgic. Only about once every year or two, however.

Yesterday I did a bit of a custom project as a surprise Christmas gift from a wife to her husband. We recently finished a large project on their new home. During the construction process, a family member passed away. During the ensuing cleanup, our client ended up with a collection of vinyl albums previously belonging to the deceased. Of course, there was no need for a phonograph in the original installation. Well, the wife, knowing how nostalgic and excited her husband would be to be able to play all these old records on occasion, had us install one into the DA system.

Well, the spot she really wanted it to go was in a cabinet in the Bar area right off the front entry. This is where they entertain, so this was the logical place to put it. Well, the cabinet only had drawers, so we had the electrician meet us to put a recessed outlet behind the drawer. I had to cut a slot out of the rear of the drawer for the power and audio connections. It was a super tight fit, but it turned out pretty badass if you ask me.

I will get some photos next time I am there. It is just a cheapo Ion classic table. I removed the dust cover, and the thing BARELY fit inside the drawer. No where on the web, could I find dimensions. So I guessed, and almost got burned. But it worked out really well.

Husband accidentally discovered the present last night. He must have been rummaging for a corkscrew or something. He texted to say thanks.

Merry Christmas!

Spent my 30th hour behind a rack. Still not done, but looking tight. Too bad this isn't my job, helping out some friends.

Then spent 2 hours with my kids playing piano and drums, just messing around. Great two hours. My 7 year old is taking piano lessons, so I'm taking them too.
Hey, careful man, there's a beverage here!

Now he just needs to marry that girl, have a couple kids, and grow as misserble as the rest of us. LOL

I don't know if anyone is completely an adult until the point where they finally realize why their own parents we're always yelling at them.
