That looks sweet SD. Is the sammy flushed in the wall in that pic above?

What am I looking at, as far as material?

Thanks!

It is not built-in flush but we are using the new Omni UltraFlat. When you walk in this room the side on the TV is very visible but you dont see ANY mount at all if it is not tilted forward.

S.D, check this out..

Call me crazy, but I did not contract any work out.. The homeowner had his friend texture, but thats it.. and since I have 0 help these days, yup I did it all by my lonesome. Not to mention the job was 200 miles away. I just got back into town today.

Thank ya sir!

Usually I say to myself " just because you can do it, doesn't mean you should " and 99% of the time I would have contracted it out.. In this case, the guy is a good customer of mine, and lives in a small town, where it's a pain in the ars to get 1-2- or in this case 3 or more contractors out there to do anything.

I did it cheap too :/

Nice work, all of you guys! JEESH. Audioslayve... You are a jack of all trades it looks like! That had to be quite a few hours of labor to do all that?!? Looks very nice.
Sound SD -- that is one of the more impressive BAR/Restraunt jobs I've seen in a while. Usually those guys are cheap! Good job on capturing the sale & the Installation.

Yesterday I worked in the store all day, we hung a 60 Kuro, and a SONY-PRO LCD, and worked on putting together a materials list for building a bunch of bass traps and broadband sound panels for a couple of areas.
We have two soundrooms that sound like ASS, so they will both be heavily treated and will be pretty sweet when done. The boss wants them done like yesterday.
I'll get some pics of the finished stuff.
I'm thinking of having a cabinet-designer pal -- make up a bunch of really nice frames with trim that the Owens Corning and fabric can slide into... Will have him make them to accept 6, 4 or 2 inch by 2 foot by 4 foot chunks of material, and have fancy little stands to sit on, so they'll look $$$$.
Heck, might even start making for the hard core customers who want to "tweak" their listening rooms at their homes.

After work...
Took home an old pair of Magnapans that a customer traded in, just for the hell of it... (I used to own Magnapans years ago)... Was blown away by them, stayed up ALL night re-listening to all my music. Took about an hour to set them up so that I get a pin-point image out of them... Used my little ELAN laser pointer to toe-in the speakers. The soundstage is perfectly centered now, and on good recordings, the speakers all most disappear--- you just get this great soundstage that floats in between the speakers.

I guess I'll have to buy them now! It's worth it though, they are cheap & amazing-- even at super low listening levels. 8>)

audioslayve, nice job on the "poor man's flat panel tv". I've done a few over the years and it's always the bullnose that gets me. Tips?

that gets me. Tips?

You must be talking about,, well first off..

Walls are never square ( unless you spend days building the thing )
Bullnose gets even more funky once you add mud, texture etc.

tweeterguy, how good are you with a table saw?

This is what you do, no matter how square, or unsquare the wall or opening is when using bullnose. Now depending on the intensity of the texture, or how uneven the surface areas are, depends on how you will measure. Usually I cut 1/8" or up to 5/16" over what the opening averages,( since they are never the same ) for instance if my opening vertically is 32 1/2" on the left side, and 32 3/4.. then your average would be 32 5/8. On something with a 1/4 of an inch difference I would probly cut my piece a 1/4 bigger than the average. So it would be 32 7/8. When covering in grill cloth, you really don't neeed to account for material thickness, because it's so thin.

Next I would set the saw blade at about 22 1/2 degrees and run it back through the table saw at the same length ( 32 7/8 ) giving me an angled edge, that way when you set the piece in the opening, it then acts as a pressure fitted bezel, sinking into the bullnosed section eliminating gaps.

I hope that makes sense to you, and I'm just guessing on what tricky portion you were after

audioslayve...thanks for the post. I was actually referring to the drywall bullnose; sorry I wasn't more clear about that which caused you to type about the press in panel. In the past I would just end up doing a rough frame install just up to the edges of the screen (no press in panel) and outsource the mudding, taping, texturing, etc to someone who does it for a living as I was not able to get the bullnose to look perfect or match up texturing well. I just chalked it up to it's not what I do so let someone else tackle it.
