I need advice on enclosures. I am considering the sonance fire rated units for a new construction project. The speakers will be 622 tr and 622t sonance units driven by a russound 6.4 unit for now. I need to know if the enclosures are worth installing or is there a better value enclosure out there.
Thank You
Tim

I would say they are probably designed specifically for the Symphony series speakers (which you are installing) and would probably sound better.

Is this a commercial job? If so, only the ceiling enclosures would need to be fire rated, and only if the ceiling is a Plenum design. Possibly the wall if it is a 'fire wall' Normally an exterior wall to a hallway etc.

Thanks Matt
This is a residential job. The speaker enclosures I am looking at are fire rated. there will be penetrations in the garage fire rated wall.
Thanks again
Tim

Use the enclosures if you can. The speakers sound much better when installed in an enclosure.

I am not sure the fire rated enclosures would make the speakers sound better. They are far from optimum and exist for the purposes of meeting a fire rating. That's why they also sell wood enclosures and only promote the metal enclosures (which are actually much cheaper) for fire rated applications.

Trust me...the speakers do sound much better when installed in an enclosure. Stop by, and I'll demo it for you.

I find that the fire rated enclosures are not adequate in interior volume. I much prefer the wood enclosures also when using them. To me.. The cans are a compromise.

Don't forget that most speakers are designed for a much larger enclosure. That's why I cringe when I see them mounted under the windows in a dining room for instance..

I'm no expert, but I have built speakers from scratch before.

It depends on what you use. A/D/S 400ax only require 2 cubic feet.
