Hello,

I have the following problem: When I create an invisible button in Photoshop (.png) and import it into my pronto project, the simulator works fine when I click on it but after downloading the file onto my pronto the pronto doesn't do anything whatsoever when I press the button... I exchanged the image to a .jpg and everything wors fine...

the same problem occurs when you download the entry 02 (rendered surface) of the TSU9600 contest which has invisible buttons on the home page over the different "balls"... you can see them in the editor and use them in the simulator but you simply cannot use them when working the remote...

I am using firmware 1.3...

thanks

I use Photoshop as well and save all my PNG's using the "Save For Web" option. When saving a given PNG file to be used as an invisible button you must use the PNG-24 option. Using anything less will result in the invisible button not being clickable once you've downloaded your XCF to the remote.

Or make it 1% visible instead of 0%
That also should help.

A 1% opacity is required. In the case of invisible buttons (buttons which contain only one solid layer at 1% opacity) this is not enough however. This type of graphic must be saved as a PNG-24 file in Photoshop, otherwise the resulting button will not be clickable once downloading to the remote even though it is in the Simulator. I'd consider this a bug of sorts. PEP downloads the graphics to the remote in some sort of optimized format. Clearly during this process these specific types of graphics don't translate properly if they were saved at a lower color depth. So long as they are saved as PNG-24 files you're good to go thankfully.

Hi there,

thanks for the support so far... as soon as I am home tonight I will give this a shot... but why in the world is Contest Entry #2
“Prototypes” also done w/ non-clickable buttons, because I am sure that the author (whoever Mr. X might be) clearly knew what he was doing?!?

thanks

Let me step in for anyone who did any of the contest entries and say that many of us do not have a real remote to test with and had no way of knowing that this would be an issue. That's MY story anyway.

That's MY story anyway.

And mine, too ;-)
I remembered from PPENG, that total transparent buttons won't work, but when "mine" worked in the simulator, I figured, they solved the problem in the meantime.
Sorry, if this caused trouble.

Well, this is what I call a bug then... I used PS8, created a new file w/ transparent background, when to 'save for web & devices', clicked on 'png-24' and my pronto STILL doesn't do anything when clicking on it... can anyone maybe mail me their file that works as a transparent button?!?

I also found some transparent buttons w/i the bitmap gallery that comes w/ the PEP and they also fail to work on the pronto...

HELP PLEASE!!!

my email is: [email protected]

any help is greatly appreciated...

thanks

I consider this "bug" a feature:
If you have a round button with a large drop shadow, you need a large transparent square area around it to be part of the button graphic (not to cut the shadow).
So much that different round buttons, placed close to each other, actually have overlapping (rectangular) real estate, where the transparent area of can get on top of the opaque shape of the other. This is a real pain, as the wrong button will get executed when trying to press the underlying button!
Hence this "feature": only (partly) opaque areas are click-able, transparent areas "fall through". I use this all the time :-)
(But I agree it could have been more consistent between panel and simulator and better documented by Philips :-)

You need to first make sure you are not just creating a graphic which contains an empty layer. If you are that's the problem. The layer has to consist of a solid color, preferably white with an opacity setting of 1%, and saved as a PNG-24. If you are following these steps the resulting button will be clickable in both the Simulator and remote.

The transparent images in the gallery you speak of are text panels which are completely transparent. They were not saved with the 1% opacity required, so that they would be clickable if used as buttons.

Is there a way that one can apply a "fix" of this kind all at one time to an XCF file? I was playing around with Noel Blackmans file (Entry #7) and it seems there may be similar problems there - as some of the button are not responsive at times.

Any help would be appreciated - I am using PaintShop Pro 11 and please keep in mind that I am VERY new at graphic editing. I have a better than average knowledge of the rest of remote programng as I own several - The 9600 is by far my favorite.

Just a simple question - can it be done in one step?
