Question One:

I have a question regarding the Pronto TSU9400 in reference to a common “Command Fail” message many of my customers are experiencing.

All of the remotes in question are paired with the RFX9400 and experience this message routinely (more often than I would have expected).

I understand this “message” to be prevalent while the remote is not communicating with the RF extender; and on most occasions’ normal operation resumes after a couple of button pushes.

However, when the handheld remote does not resume operation under these normal conditions, the customer has to ‘turn off/on’ the remote to reset operation, and on some occasions the RF extender must also be powered off/on.

Can you provide any insight? Some of my customers are not capable of (or unwilling to) completing this task and assume something is wrong with the remote.

Question Two:

I installed a TSU9400/RFX9400 combination yesterday that has a similar situation. However this set-up looses RF connectivity every time I downloaded an updated program file into the remote.

In other words… I had the system connected and as I was editing the program file, and would download the file into the remote, the touch screen would stick on “connecting”.

This dilemma will not clear until I unplug the RF extender and cycle it back on.

Any insight?

Without addl information, here's the best I can do.

You have not told us if you are using RFX9400s in standalone mode.

You have not told us if you have latest firmware on RFX9400s.

What is firmware on TSU9400s? Is it the latest?

What, if any routers (make and model as well as firmware revision) might you you be using?

Have you run a search for last 2 years about network connectivity in this forum?

Yes, stand alone mode.

New, out of the box RFX9400's, I have not upgraded any firmware. (wasn't aware it was necessary)

Same with the TSU9400's

No routers.

No I have not searched, but I will now.

My program files are very 'simple', most of my clients are of mature age and get easily 'miffed' when things don't work flawlessly.

I do not know how to check, much less update the firmware versions of either Philips piece.

Unless your configurations have prontoscript embedded, they are not programs, just configuration files.

With regard to firmware, here is my recommendation, which I also apply to purchasing a new computer. I never install an operating system without applying latest stable service packs (Windows) so I always check firmware to see if unit has latest and greatest and if not, I look through firmware available here and on philips site to see what is the latest stable version.

The firmware upgrade instructions for the TSU9400 are to execute a simple EXE file (downloadable from files section) with the remote attached to a USB port. To see what firmware you have on the 9400, go to the information page of 'setup' (hold wrench icon in system area for 3 seconds).

For the RFX9400, read the manual. The instructions are a bit more complex and I suggest using the cross-connect cable that comes with the unit vs using the extender discovery tool. This will require a PC with an ethernet port and a Web Browser.

There is one other thing. On each RFX9400 when you install it, if installing as Extender ID 0, take a screwdriver and cycle the switch left and right a few times to ensure it is making good contact. After cycling, return to '0' position.
