I have programmed quite a few TSU9600s with RFX9400 and RFX9600. This particular system, I am working with has a TSU9600 and a RFX9400.

when I use the RFX in wep wifi Mode (ofcourse with a home network wifi router) the TSU can talk to it send commands and the components respond properly.

WHen I put the RFX in standalone mode and Config switch to (1, 2 or 3 and it is matched in the 9600 as well) (ID is matched in the code and RFX = 0), it says "Command Failed" on every single button push.

Any ideas and suggestions about troubleshooting this problem?

Thanx
Balji

I'm probably misinterpreting your post: When you are talking about the config switch; are you talking about setting the channel, mode or the config itself? The 1,2 and 3 settings for config control whether the unit is in 'use', 'cross-over config' or 'router config' mode.

If the RFX is properly configured you need to have config set to 1 for 'use'

It sounds like you may have some left-overs sitting in the RFX9400 config. You've indicated that it works in network mode: Have you queried the RFX9400's internal config via cross-over cable or router in your browser to ensure that all of its network settings have been removed and that the units' internal config is really in standalone mode? By nature of your description it sounds like the unit was configured to work in network mode and those settings still remain.

Thanx For the response.
My understanding is that once you put the RFX in standalone mode with the sliding switch at theback of the unit, the network settings do not matter and when it is in standalone mode, the settings switch has 3 options 1, 2 and 3 which have to match the pronto channel in the system settings wireless tab in the PEP software.

And please take a look at the chart at the back of the RFX, it says the same that I mentioned above.

Hidef,

I think you're possibly misreading the destructions for configuring the RFX9400, as I found myself doing the first time out.

You need to set the two-position "Stand-alone/ network" slider switch to "stand-alone" mode, the three-position "Config" switch needs to be set to "1" (this switch is only changed during configuration, and reset to "1" when in use) , and then you need to dial in the "Extender ID" to match the settings on your TSU. The default ID on the RFX and TSU is 0 (zero).

In PEP V1, make sure that the settings for the controller under the "Wireless Settings" tab, on the "Systems/ System Properties" tree is set to match the settings for the RFX.

In PEP V2, you're looking for the "Network" tab, and follow the same instructions as above for PEP V1.

Where you're probably getting mixed up is setting the "Config" switch on the RFX to 2 or 3, and possibly changing the "Pronto Channel" slider in PEP V2 to 2 or 3.

My question for you is why don't you just leave the RFX as part of the WiFi network and utilize the extra functions available? Have you seen any of the RSS feeds, Weather Modules, etc. that can be fed to the controller?

As I said originally and Evohome has added: The 3 setting config switch needs to be in the 'use' or '1' position otherwise you're not going to get any comms moving as the unit is expecting you to configure it.

Thanx Guys

How do I get the RSS feeds and weather?
That will be great features to add.
But I am still curious why it is not working in the stand alone mode.
Thanx
Balji

PS: in Stand alone mode the settings switch can be at any of thre three posiitons. In network mode it has to be in location 1 for "use". it says right on the RFX unit.

I am not sitting in front of your setup and as such, can not tell you what you're doing wrong.

In standalone mode, an extender has both a Channel and an ID. The 1,2,3 switch indicates the channel you want (must be matched in the remote config as well). The ID, of course is 0-0x0f (15 decimal).

Regarding extenders not working in standalone mode... This actually applies to either standalone mode or network mode, but give it a shot.

Take a screwdriver and turn the ID switch from 0 to F in counterclockwise and clockwise direction several times. I've seen one case where the contacts may have oxidized or were not making contact at ID 0 (shipping setup). Simple cleaning of contacts by several turns back and forth fixed it.

Balji,

I agree with advice on the other questions. You should become intimate with the search capabilities of this site. :)
