I am getting ready to release the update for the "Original" 9600 version of SlimPronto. This update addresses the following:

A complete Search facility based upon locating albums, artists, genres, and tracks that match the search function. From that point on, until you choose a different library list or start a new search, it is as if you had a custom library containing just those items. You can request song info about any album or track that is returned from the search and click the album cover to play it. The Search result page shows the search result and the current playlist which changes dynamically as you update it.

The ability to "Quickstart" SlimPronto from another activity naming the player it is to use and and the playlist it is to start. The playlist may contain Internet radio stations and/or selections of songs. With this capability ou could have a page in another activity with buttons to start "Audio scenes".

Browsing your library by folder. Useful if your collection is older or is not completely tagged.

An option to monitor the performance of the Wi-Fi network. I have tested the application in a degraded environment where the Pronto only registers a single red bar on the WiFi widget and often looses it completely. In all cases the application recovers state, although under those conditions performance is somewhat sluggish. Not the music playing, just the SlimPronto display update.

Several minor bug fixes that were discovered during our regression testing process.

The User Manual has been completely updated to include the new features and a revision log.

The 9400 version of the update will be following shortly.

The price is still $29.95 with free updates and support, accordingly this update is free to current users. It may not be used commercially without prior permission and it carries a copyright to protect our interests. It may be loaded on as many 9600's as you own in any homes you own, but may not be loaded on 9600's of friends or relatives. Sections may be copied for personal use only, with no redistribution of any parts thereof.

If you are a registered user, you will be automatically sent the update at the eMail address I have for you.

My email address is in my profile and I will answer any and all questions.

Basically SlimPronto comes in two flavors, the 9400 and 9600 versions. It is based on the Slim Devices Command Line Interface (CLI) protocol to their server product which is now called SqueezeCenter.

Squeezecenter runs on several platforms (PC, MAC and NAS) and supports iTunes integration and Internet radio. Slimpronto does not care how many players there are or what kind they are. It has been tested with every player that Slim Devices sells (Softsqueeze, which is free, the Duet, the Squeezebox and the Transporter). I support the product and provide feature updates as my schedule permits (I am retired so I have lots of free time, but also lots of interests). I know no one who is not totally satisfied with both the product and the support they receive. Yes, some want other features, but they are satisfied.

Multiple SlimPronto systems may be used controlling the same or different players. The User Interface on the 9400 is very similar to the Duet Jive controller with iPhone like sliding screens, just not the finger wipe as the pronto can not do that. The 9600 version makes use of the extra screen real estate to provide a very rich user interface.

Both versions support:

Multiple players; Browse by Artist, Album, Track, Playlist, Genre, Folder and Cover Art

The Now playing Queue (current playlist) is displayed along with the current selection and on the 9600 the next selection to be played is also shown.

Browsing is very fast and independent of library size, with effective use of the scroll wheel (subjective).

Shuffle, repeat, sleep, volume, mute, crossfade, Text search (9600 now, 9400 in the upcoming update), and Internet radio are supported

Search is free text and returns matchs in categories (Genre, Artists, Albums, tracks) which may then be Browsed by category

The next update adds support for library rescan so you no longer have to go back to Squeeze center to rescan the library.

The next update also adds the ability to have a page of buttons each referencing a playlist, a player and a return point. Clicking that button (located on a page in any activity on the Pronto) will start that player playing that playlist and return to the page specified. Very high WAF!

I have come to love the new QuickStart feature!

With this feature I can completely remove traditional radio presets. Now I use preset icons that jumps to an iRadio stream station via the SlimPronto interface.
That is great: Huge WAF!!!

Thank you Barry for the great work.

Some of the Quickstart credit goes to Jacob who asked for it and laid out how he felt it should operate. You can set volume, playlist, player, and return point; and I have a request to handle player sync I will look at. In effect you end up with a single button that starts a musical mood. There is no reason why the same button or its return point could not do other things like set the lighting scene at the same time.

Hello,

I did not find how to directly jump to a internet radio stream. Is it necessary to replace playlist name by radio stream ?

Thanks.

No, just have the playlist contain the internet radio stream. as a song. I am assuming this works since playlists containing radio streams do play properly and all that SlimPronto does is tell SqueezeCenter which playlist to start. A radio stream acts like any other song track in a playlist except instead of a being a simple file reference, it is a URL. I do not know what happens if the stream is off the air (does not exist) or what happens if it stops playing, or if there are multiple streams in the playlist. As you can tell I do not generally listen to Internet radio but I know that many SLimPronto users do and that it does work.

Barry, I have also installed it yesterday night and everything works just fine. I will also go and test / integrate direct jumps as I love this feature.
keep it up. It's really worth the $s spent.

There will be another update shortly. One very meticulous user has been finding minor issues on the 9400, and I think we have them all nailed down now. Also I added caching for cover art images to speed up the retrievals. SlimPronto now holds 4 cover images in memory and only fetches a new cover if it doesn't have it.

I ran into one interesting issue. I had a program I was playing with on the PC that runs slimserver. I had a little do nothing loop in it and it ran at low priority but sucked up CPU cycles. When it was running, Squeezecenter had issues talking to the Pronto and as soon as I stopped it all went back to normal.

The Wi Fi performance monitor built into SlimPronto will give you excellent insight on how well SquezeCenter-Wi-Fi-Pronto is operating. When things are running well there will be no retrys, and the "wait for response" count will rarely get above 1 (100 miliseconds of waiting for a response). The montor will show1/0/1 for (waiting for response count / retry count / active sockets)

No I am sorry there is not at this time.

If you email me I can perhaps send you some that I have for the 9600. The way it works on the 9400 (Iphone like) it is a bit more difficult to show a screen image with out taking photographs as they are dynamically built and slide left to right so there is nothing to see in the Editor. Several have requested I do some images, but I spend most of my time improving the code and adding features as opposed to working the sales/advertising end. I rely on word of mouth more than pictures.

Trust me you will not be diappointed. Nobody has yet

Hi folks,

sorry for being offtopic, but I think it might be the best place for getting an answer:

Is there any possibility to setup the duet receiver without having the controller? I bought one at eBay an thought I can use it with SlimPronto 94.

Any hints?

Best regards
Winni

If you go to the slimdevices forum on their web site (slimdevices.com) there is a project underway or which may be complete that does just that. Search around using duet , configure, etc. I believe it allows you to configure it from any PC. Once you have it configured the Pronto will handle everything else.
