Hi there,

I like many others have a H3900 series compaq PDA along with an electric dog extender which is virtually useless. Does anyone know if PDAWin are still working on this issue or have they given up on the problem.

I have noted that there have been many informative posts from Dave Houston if you see this Dave can you shed some light on the isse once again?

I presume that newer versions of the iPaq will also have problems. Like someone else has stated here before with the amount of money that has been collected by PDAWin you would expect that they would be working on this problem harder.

The software has not been updated since 12 Sept. I would bet that the next version would only contain newer features & now fix to this solution.

:-(

I expect a new release of PDAwin in a few days. PDAwin tells me they have solved the software problem for the 39xx and think they'll be able to also support the PDA-ir extender on later iPAQs, as well.

It wasn't a lack of effort on their part. They just could not find the necessary documentation. Someone was able to put them in touch with some engineers at Compaq and they got the information they had lacked. That was Friday. On Saturday, they informed me they had a fix and plan a release for later this week.

I expect further developments on this front over the next few weeks.

The amount of money collected by PDAwin is far, far, far less than that individual surmised. Most of the Handango downloads are for the trial version. PDAwin collects nothing for those. Plus, Handango gets a cut of those that are sales.

Finally, both EDV and PDAwin web pages have made it clear that PDA-ir was only supported on certain iPAQs. The 39xx was not on the supported list. So, I find your "relatively useless" remark to be unfair to both EDV and PDAwin. Both are part-time businesses doing their best to make their customers happy. Neither are large corporations with large staffs. Now, if you want to argue that the Nevo hardware and software is "relatively useless", I won't quibble. ;-) Truth is, I've never seen the 39xx w/Nevo but neither have I seen many favorable comments on it.

Dave, I can supply you with a relatively positive review of the 3950 with Nevo. I am a Pronto owner (now for sale on ebay Australia!). I bought the 3950 as I needed a PDA plus wanted something to play mp3's. The ipaq was the best solution that supported all my requirements. Having a Pronto I was also very interested in seeing what Nevo could do having spent literally months programming my Pronto and still not being entirely satisfied with the results, or for that matter the pathetic dull 4 colour screen. Anyway, I've found Nevo very easy to setup, sure it's not a Pronto, and many things are not confiqurable but you know what, it gets the job done! It operates all my equipment and I've found range to be fine. I use it about 5m from my equipment and have no problems though this is about the limit in my situation. My wife also finds it much simpler to use, though I prefer her to use the standard remote since she dropped and broke the first touchscreen remote I had! Finally that 3950 screen, yes it is as bright and georgeous as everyone says, it is a revelation compared to any Pronto.
I look forward to the new release of Nevo promised first quarter 2003 and hope that some of the negative issues raised in the past will be resolved, however for me the ipaq Nevo combination is a winner. Cheers.

So how do you enter discrete codes in the Nevo software?

Dave,

This cannot be done. You have 3 choices:

1) Use the build-in database (not enough)
2) Learn of remote (often not usable when needing discrete codes)
3) Download from the nevo-homepage.

They actually have a quite extensive database - but are also very protective about it. As a licensed customer, you are only allowed download of 15 different codes (if I remeber the amount correctly).

Often you have to do a lot of experimenting, before you fint the right code. This makes the download-litmit very restricting. Nevo states, that they will reset your account, if you e-mail them. The problem is, that - in the past - the have not responded to e-mails.

This is not acceptable for advanced users - like previous pronto-owners !

Regards,
Kenn - Denmark

I've read that X-10 makes (or used to make) all of UEI's remotes. I'm not sure who owns the code database but X-10 claims to have the largest database of IR codes. My experience has been that both X-10 and UEI remotes have very poor databases with many missing and/or incorrect codes.
