Do you think it may put off customers if your a service provider (depending on the service )and you live in a notorious area (deserving of the reputation or not)?

I guess it would depend on the service. If you are an accountant working out of your house and they need to bring you receipts and stuff, then yes. But if, like me, an IT consultant where I either work from home programming or at the clients site, then it does not matter where you are. If this is about your business, I can't understand why it would.

Say for example you wanted a Mobile DJ for your wedding at a high class venue and the only info for DJ's locally that you can find is two providers web sites of equal merit and there location and one DJ is based in an area that is known to be a rough area and another is in a nice respectable suburban area would that put you off the DJ from the rough neighbourhood ?

Now I believe the correct moral answer is no it shouldn't ..each DJ should be contacted and how they respond to the enquiry and any questions you may have , how they tailor the service to your needs and budget and who is best able to demonstrate experience and professionalism and value for money will determine who you hire BUT i believe in the real world many people have hang ups , prejudices , Un-founded fears and may not even bother contacting the DJ from the rough neighbourhood .

There are areas in my city that I believe would put off potential clients , i have been told that's rubbish and you can be successful anywhere but there are Zero , None, not one high class wedding DJ's in one particular area of my City.
ok this could be that anyone that can afford the equipment to host such a high class event would
1.move out of the area
2. have the gear stolen if they stayed in that area.

it could be that no one has thought about setting up such a service when they live in this area.

My guess is that this particular area that is a very high immigrant ethnic area with a high crime rate frightens some people and that many middle class white people in the nice areas would not wish to hire a dj from that area no matter how good they may be due to there own fears.

I feel many will never openly admit this to be the case but it to be true.

I don't know. Then again, if it is websites, then why include your address?

The issue is that some years ago I used to be in the executive comity of a club and every year we had (have) a dance. The DJ was always either picked through word of mouth ("I heard this guy and he is good") or experience ("same guy as last year", "was at.... and he did a good job"). In the end what is important is the type of music he owns and plays (likes). A DJ can say they play anything, but if his collection is mostly pop and they want waltzes and polkas, it won't work too well.

In that sense maybe where you live can have an effect. If guy A has it good with the manager at the high class venue, and the wedding party asks him for some recommendations, guy B could lose out. If guy A has some contact with the bride/groom or someone else high in the wedding party or if there is a wedding planner then B could lose out.....

In the UK I believe its a requirement to have your address on your website if its for e commerce.

I get business from 99% recommendations or people who come to my show.

but i do think someone from a posh part of my county would maybe not hire me just because where i live rather than my ability to do the job , class divides still exist in my opinion in the uk

I have no ideas of UK law, but is a website with contact info even considered e-commerce? in my opinion e-commerce implies an online transaction. Your web site is more of an advertisement (i.e. this is what we offer, call me up for prices....)

no idea, I am neither in the UK nor upper-class. I am a middle class working stiff.

Well sure!

Your address is in the heart of the "old money" neighborhood and you drive a new BMW Alpina to the potential clients home, it's going to be a rather hard sale.....:-)
