I have never programmed Crestron before. I am wanting to add a CEN Iserver to an existing Adagio system. How complicated would it be. Thanks.

Piece of cake, if you're efficient at Crestron programming. You would need the original program, not the compiled version.

The customer had the system programmed five years ago. They aren't in contact with the guy who originally programmed it. I've never dealt with crestron, I've always used RTI, URC, Vantage, Élan, etc. What they have isn't complicated, they have an IPod doc, xm radio, and an adagio audio server with the adagio system with 6 keypads. The keypads are not in color.

If you don't have the original program, it has to be completely redone from scratch. Unfortunately, you can't un-compile a Crestron program. This would be the first thing I'd look into is getting the original.
If you've never dealt with Crestron, it's not something you're going to pick-up overnight not to mention the need for all the software.

If I did have the original I could easily add the new piece correct? However if I can't get it, am I not able to load a new program onto it?

Adding the iServer isn't too big of a deal if you understand SIMPL programming. If you've never done it before, it could take quite some time.

I will bet the described system was programmed in SystemBuilder, which should make it easier to add to especially if he has never done any Crestron programming. It sounds like there are APADs running the system. You will need the source code/archive and access to the Crestron Software.

Do you walk away from clients? I proposed putting in a new system and the customer declined it. They are a good client of mine and I wanted to help them out because they were unhappy with the original installation five years ago.

Do you walk away from clients? Yes, if I am unable to help them or they are unable to be helped. But truly you should be getting in contact with a CSP to help you.

Do you walk away from clients? I have enough respect for them and am smart enough to know when to bring in the right people to help. I never purposely make them into guinea pigs so I can try something new I know nothing about.

Minimum, you'll need access to the software suite, possibly firmware updates, and the hardware itself (or did the customer go eBay this?)
You should also know that Crestron has discontinued support for the application that sync'd the iPod while it was docked, largely defeating the benefits of having a 'permanent' iPod dock. I think it still works on older OS's (XP, Vista, Win7, OS10?), but since its not a product we used I'm not entirely sure what works and what doesn't.

Oh Yes , there will be firmware updates. Be prepared for extra time to install these updates. You can recreate the entire program in System builder without too much trouble, but if you have never done it before, you are wasting your time. Bring someone in and learn from them. It will be the best for everyone.

This is the kind of situation that ultimately ends up giving Crestron a bad name.
