Thanks for the link this will help, I guess my 2 main questions are about favorites channels and turn off macros.

How do I assign the channel numbers to the channels, right now when I press a favorites buttons it only send out 000.

And must I set up macros to power down my euipment.

Sorry for the basic questions, I am brand new to the Mx-980 CCP, once I get familar with I will be off and running, I also had a learning curve with my previous, remote, the MX-810

Thanks inadvance.

There are some of us who can and will acquire knowledge to do things for ourselves and not call a (Professional)........

I LIKE TO DO THINGS MY SELF, there is nothing wrong with that.

Be part of the solution, and not part of the problem.

I will become very good at programming the MX-980 just as I did with the MX-810 just as I did with building computers, etc.

I don't think many will recognize you programming prowess in your mastering a MX810...

Then do it your self and quit coming to a professional forum, populated by folks who are NOT DIYs, and make their living on programming these control systems.

Not knocking DIY, but urge you to understand where you are.
Chasing Ernie's post count, one useless post at a time.

I have a fully programmed MX980 and I wanted to add a macro for AppleTV. My original programmer is out of business and I have no way to get ahold of him. I'm pretty handy, so I thought I could do this myself. How do you get the CCP program, and how difficult would it be to swap out one of the current programmed buttons on the front page for a new macro? Thanks in advance for any help you could lend...

You probably won't like the answer, but you can easily rectify your problem by looking at the URC website for an authorized dealer in your area. Understand that your dealer went out of business, but there are plenty of shops out there that are rock solid and offer a high level of support and help you know and going forward.

The software is dealer only and dealers could actually give it to you, so it might not be a bad idea anyway.

It's very simple to swap out one of the current programmed buttons...pay an authorized dealer $99-149 to come out to program it for you. End of problem.

But why would one want to do that? It's far easier to get the software sideways, realize you don't have the proper OS or drivers, then search for those solutions, try programming it yourself, and come back on here ad nauseam looking for free help, right?lol

Thanks everyone for the replies. Sorry for seeming like a jerk by not replying sooner. It's been a busy week what with after-hours support calls for my day job, my internet broadband bandwidth dropping down to dial-up speeds, yadda yadda yadda ! And then I couldn't logon here with my new account - something got messed up with my password so a few emails back and forth with Daniel and all is good.

Now, back on topic. Mistachy, thanks for the offer and I'll take you up on that.
And others, thanks for the confidence builders. Yeah, mine isn't real high right now. Problem is I'm so tired by the time I can get to this each night that I don't think my brain is working at 100 %.

I looked at the manual and CCP last night and I'm still confused about when, where and how to build my activities. I get step 1, creating Devices. It seems like maybe this is where I could create the Activities - if so, I haven't figured it out. Can someone explain how that is done and how devices and activities fit together ? I get the idea that one of the first things that needs to be done is to build and name the devices that this remote will control. Is it correct to think of them as the building blocks of the control system ? From there I see Activities as just ways of organizing selected functions and key commands from a mix of several devices in the user's AV system around the way those devices are actually used.

At this point in the game, my preplanning has been to write down each of the devices that are used in my HT and then all of the activities that I would like this remote to automate or facilitate for me. Next I'll map out which devices will be needed for each activity and what steps, inputs, and so on from each are needed to build a well functioning activity. I'll also be giving some thought as to which buttons from each device are really needed and which ones can be left off. I find that like most people, I have device remotes with a lot of buttons that seldom, if ever get used. Why clutter up a universal remote with every single one of them ?

I have more questions, but I'll leave at this for right now. For the moment, I'll get off the computer and sit down with pen and notepad and do some more preplanning. I've lived with my current setup for 3 years, so I have a good feel for how I use it and how I'd like it controlled to simplify and improve my own enduser experience. How does that sound ? Marketable enough ?

Thanks much !
Bill

I'm a newbie to the CCP programming as well.  I have an extensive computer background and it took a good couple of hours or so of plunking around with it to get the flow down.  I put my activities on the watch and listen pages.  When you select an activity such as play Blu-Ray my macro will turn on the TV, the Blu-ray player, switch the inputs and as a last step it takes you to the device page for the Blu-Ray player.  I also have the last page of my listen and watch pages as direct jumps to the individual devices.  this facilitates getting to the individual devices as needed.  Eventually I'll learn what I need for each activity and get it programmed in and won't need those links to the individual devices so much.

You are on the right track so far.  Get all your devices in there and functioning.  Then plan out your activites and build those as macros where you will need to link back to the controls for each device you should have in there already.

I got mine for our new house being finished up this fall.  So mine is completely in a dev mode right now so I have mine in all sorts of states at different times.

Ummm, what was the date of that post you replied to???
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.
