All:
I saw an used MX3000 sell for a few bucks in Craigslist (really for only $15 bucks!); so I pick it up as a back up for my current MX3000, in case my terrible two would drop my be love MX3000. I'm be able to transfer all my file to the new remote but the Main and the two Page hard buttons don't work. It's not that they don't work but seem like they got programmed to do something. Since the main button won't work when hold down for more than a few second to go to system menu, I can't reset or wipe out the system. Does anyone know how to reset the system for it to come back to factory setting?
Thanks
bt

Press and hold the main button for 5+ seconds. That will take you to a set up page with a factory reset button.

Joe:
I know about hold down the Main key to get to setup page and had tried that many time, but the main button won't take me to the set up page. All three buttons (main and Page +/-) are seem to have some kind learning/program function stick to them, since it's send out RF signal when press, but I just don't know what they're or how to disable them. I know the buttons is function and work fine, since they all can wake the remote up when press and send out RF signal. I have searched up and down this forum as well as the google the web; can find any hint on how to bring the remote back to factory reset without go to the setup page!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Ooookee, does this mean you are not able to transfer a new file? I you cant, it shouldn't be because the main and pages are stuck doing something but rather a deeper firmware problem. (Buttons are not needed for a download.) If you are correct that the normal use of those buttons has been altered with programming, then you should be able to fix it with a new download.

Either way, I hope you are able to fix it so you have an extra.

Yeah, I'm be able to download my files to the remote and all the soft buttons as well as hard buttons, except those 3 keys (main and 2 page keys), are working correctly and all my macros are function correctly as well. At this point, I'm very sure that it's a firmware problem, which I just wasted $15 bucks! I just hope it I can do a total wipe out of the system to factory setting. Wonder if anyone had opened the Mx3000 and removed the backup battery (not the main battery) to reset/reboot the bios of the remote?

Coincidentally and bizarrely (timing wise), I have this exact same problem and was just searching the forums to see if anyone else had experienced it. The main and page buttons wake the device, but they won't actually return me to home or change pages in the current menu. It sounds like you and I have tried most of the same things with no luck. In addition to what you've listed, I also tried resetting the device with the reset button inside the battery compartment to no avail. My next step is to take the thing apart and see if I can figure anything out.

Please post here if you do find a solution, and I'll do the same.

I should also add that I have verified that the "User Defined HardKey (Page +/-,Main)" option is not checked in the User Preferences. I have also tried enabling it, updating the remote, then disabling it, and updating the remote, in hopes that it was stuck on somehow. Still no luck.

Hi EndLess:
Welcome to my obsessive nightmare! I have tried all the thing you listed as well: press the reset button the back; check/uncheck the user defined hard key; download some other templates with the hope that my current template cause problem! No thing is seem to work. I'm very confidence now that the problem is firmware not hardware. I took a very close look at the remote but couldn't find a way to pry open the case; so I have not done that yet. Anyway, I'll give URC supporting team a call tomorrow to see if they have any idea. Will keep you update.
Good luck!

Hi Endless:
One more thing, my problematic MX3000 remote was built in 11-21-05 N4. Just want to see if your remote was built in the same period. My current good remote, I have it for more than 5 years now; older than this one and very beat up, but still runs strong!
thanks

Mine was manufactured 1-15-06, so while not the same batch, pretty close...

I called URC tech support; no help there! Tech-support said he has never seen this problem! and thinks that the buttons are worn out and stopped working. I told him that I don't think it's the buttons but more of firmware problem, since I still be able to use the buttons to wake the remote as well as verified that they are all send out RF signals. Also, asking him if they have someway to wipeout or reset the remote via computer connection or software, instate of through the remote set-up page. He said NO! So I guess this is the end of the road then; unless I can find a way to pry open the remote.

I actually cracked mine open.. quite the exercise in patience, but didn't see anything on the mainboard that looked of interest. Once opened, I also tested by pressing the contacts directly, just in case the buttons weren't making full contact, with the same result.

The trick, if you want to give it a go, was to work something (I used the lever off a pair of nail clippers, because it's smooth and less likely to scratch the plastic) in under the lip around the sides. Once in, sliding it around the side popped all of the clips, and the face came off. There are a number of wires clipped to the mainboard, and the battery connector soldered on, so separate the two halves carefully.

If you decide to try it and find anything of interest, let me know. Thanks for the updates!

After reading your post, I decided not to risk open the remote for nothing; all other soft & hard buttons are working fine, so I spent sometime last night placing 3 small circular buttons at the bottom of each page for Main and Page +/- then macro them to do exactly the same function as the hard buttons. After testing, I don't really miss the hard buttons at all! since most of the time I only really use the hard Main/Page buttons to wake the remote up! and they are still working in that aspect. I'll test a bit more to make sure there are no other funky stuffs, but will remove the battery and put it away for rainy day! Hope this help.
See you around the forum.
