Guess I didn't research this as well as I should.

1) Am I correct the 400 does not currently talk to Vista?
2) URC is working on this and hopes to have a solution in the near future?
3) URC will not have a fix for the MX 950 talking to Vista?
4) Is there anything else I should know about URC hardware and Vista.

Thanks,
John

1) You are wrong, the 400 does work with Vista
2) It works
3) No, it's active sync that's the problem
4) Be patient and make sure you follow all of the instructions on the URC control site.

How do you get the 400 to work in Vista??? The software works but can't get communication.

32 or 64 bit? It's my understanding that 32 works, 64 does not. Not 100% sure as none of my machines have vista.

tweeterguy,

32. Won't load the USB drivers when the 400 is plugged in, finds them and trys to load them, but says something to the effect that they won't work.

The MX 3000 would not sync with Vista but there was a solution on another thread that solves that.

Kgossen,

Saw your comment concerning VMware. Downloaded and briefly looked at it, not really sure what to do with it.

jberger,

Hope you're right that I'm wrong. As far as following instructions, I'll look again and see what I have. If you're referring to the URC's CI's site, unfortunately I'm a lowly DIY'er and do not have access. (I do have the 400 80% programmed using XP.....the Vista laptop is just more convenient).

Regards,
John

Load VMware and then installed Xp SP2 on it. I now fire up VMware and start XP I've installed the software into this virtual machine. Fire up the 400 software and download to unit.

Got it working in Vista. I had to do a manual driver install. After Vista fails the auto install of the USB drivers, go to device manager and select the not working USB device and do a manual driver update. Use the drivers in the MSC Editor\drivers\vista\x86 folder.

As far as an active sync issue that seems to be working fine. I did have to jump through a bunch of hoops to get the MX3000 synced in Vista, so I'm assuming those hoops must have taken care of syncing with the MSC400.

Before I tried the manual update I talked to URC support. They said to turn off UAC (it was off already), uninstall and reinstall the editing software and then run the editor software as an administrator. I tried this but it didn't help the driver install problem. They did say the 400 will work with Vista 32 but not 64. Apparently the install process is not yet bullit proof.

Anyway it seems to be working now.

Thanks to all that responded.

Regards,
John

Thanks! I'll try this tonight. It could save me the $180 for the VMware as I'm still using the trial version.

Do a live update first, it looks like there was a new one today. The Vista folder under drivers may have been added when I did the update today (after the Editor reinstall). I still had to do the manual driver install as I said. I noticed on the XP computer, the vista folder doesn't exist. I just did the update on the XP computer and now the vista folder is there. Anyway I'm sure someone understands all this.

Good luck.....it does work.

Thank you URC!! Downloaded the updates for the 980 and 400 and they're working in Vista. Saved me $200 on software.

Has anyone found a fix for the 400? I have vista 64 and it works great for the 980 but I can't get my computer to install the drivers for the 400.

You can't do the uploads from 64-bit Windows. You either need to run 32-bit windows in a virtual machine or use a different PC for the upload step.

A company that can't keep up with the times kind of scares me. I have an older computer running XP and is networked and behind a wall and is my media computer. I have installed the program on that computer and remote into it and run it that way.

URC has been pretty good about making their current devices and software work with 64-bit windows. I have heard that they have had trouble getting the MSC-400 to work with 64-bit windows due to some incompatibilities.

I am having trouble running MSC editor on Vista and Win 7.

It will start up fine but when I try to save any file......the editor crashes !
I have tried all compatibility settings on both OSes. On Vista it sometimes works....but on 7 it NEVER works [saves anything]

And of course.......on trying to download/sync to the MSC-400, the program freezes [not responding]. I have updated and installed drivers from c:\program files....

Whats up?

BTW, I tried the same software on a old XP laptop....it works!
