The 9600 is specifically coded to only work with the Music part of the DVDM-100 or the Fireballs. It does not currently support Movies but Philips has indicated to us that that support is very near (I hope by Christmas).
There are several things with the Escient Music Device that were surfaced late in the beta testing such as hard-button definition for the Escient device to support Multi-Zone on the 9600. Rest assured that Philips is working on this. I hope to see new software and firmware with these changes within the next 4 weeks.
