From reading the RFX9600 and Editor manuals:
- the RS232 is one way - you can only send to the device.
- Power sensing is provided. You set up macros with a conditional path depending on whether the device is off or on.

Note that you need the RFX9600 for both of these.

I was overjoyed to note that the software includes the "VOOM" icon - how could we program without it?? Otherwise looks like a lot of input from Remote Central folks, at least in setting up the Gallery. Also of interest is the Denon AVR-3805 as the default receiver.

The editor should be a snap if you are used to programming TSU7000/7500 and the like.

Hey guys a question for you.

I just imported my CCf from a RC2900 into the 9600 simulator and wow the screen size diff is huge. Does it import it to the same scale. Is the display THAT muich larger?

If so this is going to truly be a huge upgrade.....

Yes I plan on getting the RFX9600. Also I already have DVD changer controls in my RC9200. I tried Supernudelist and like my way much better. At least for me its easier to use and love seeing the DVD cover art. My CCF is uploaed in the color section.

Now the question is getting all the rs232 serial protocal codes.... I think I have them but have zero clue how to tranfer that PDF info into the xcf pronto edit pro... Somone wish to make some money to do this for me?

[email protected] is my email.

The reason you are seeing such a huge size difference in the editor is that the TSU9600's screen packs 640x480 pixels into the same physical size screen (but turned 90 degrees) as the Pronto NG line of remotes which have a resolution of 240x320. So for purposes of programming with the editor the page size you are working with is 640x480 when at 100% zoom. To see how your CCF will look on the actual remote simply launch the Simulator. The Simulator is the exact same size as the physical remote. What you'll find is that your imported CCF is hardly taking up more than the upper left quadrant of the screen. As such, the stylist will need to be used once downloaded to the remote for comfortable operation until you have created a new layout via the editor.

Sounds like someone wants to belly up to the bar and pay
for a 9600 version of SuperNudelist. One can wish....

Shoot I would pay money for SN to be available for the 7500.... Don't know if I will be getting the 9600 or not, but if SN was available for it, that would make me want to make the move in that direction....

SNL may be a while for the NG remotes. Why? Check out this post.... [Link: remotecentral.com]

I also just purchased a DVD-M100 so the only things I'll be managing with SNL will most likely be my TV shows on the TSU9600. Rest assured, I'm planning to work on a new .NET version but just have had no time or incentive (translated $$$). One of the big hindrances for NG software is that the remote uses a raster font ProntoNEO.fon and not a true-type font like the classic and 9600 remote. .NET does not handle raster fonts in a nice manner, making SNL that much more difficult to develop.

That it interesting about the 9600 and the Media PC, and would be very interesting to have that and pull that information from the server. Since I just got my 7500 (4 months ago) and am around 80% done with development of the PCF on it (guessing around 120 hours of works), I find it a hard choice to move to the 9600. Plus it sounds like you coded your own interface for the Access Database and to feed that information through IIS to the remote. Are you planning on packaging and releasing your VB stuff to others (of course for a fee) for the 9600?

I have been manually setting up my DVD list similar to Lowpro, and it has been VERY time consuming and I have had to scrap much of my ideas do to wanting to get it done and it taking too long. I have an Access database with my entire collection, DVD covers, descriptions, key actors, movie rating (G, PG, etc), my personal rating (1-5), and a few other bits of information, and manually creating this information in the remote is extremely time consuming, which is where an automated program would be handy. If something was developed for the NG 7500 that could pull that information from a database, I would be willing to easily throw $100 your way for something like that, or possibly more. I pick up new movies almost every week, and just purchased my third Sony DVD changer.

Now if the 9600 handled it well between the HTPC and the remote, that might be enough incentive to upgrade, especially since a CD list might also be nice. I am willing to throw money towards that development as well provided I get a 9600.

Thanks for the update Lyndel, the information and help over the years has been much appreciated, and the 9600 is looking more and more interesting...

IIS is only used to serve up jacket picture images via http. The TSU9600 communicates directly with my media server using TCP/IP and the Escient control protocol.

No plans for any public release at the moment. The package right now requires use of MS Access to manipulate the DB that drives the player. As part of my media integration, I've been trying to get the functions to regenerate Escient tables as part of the program and not require use of Access. Right now, I'm in the process of retagging all my media to ensure it will also work when loaded up underneath my new DVDM-100.

I'm also in the same predicament as you as I spent several months getting my DVDLobby stuff that looks alot like Lowpros but also includes full-page bitmpa movie descriptions on my 7000. This stuff is pretty much useless on the 9600. As a result, I bought the new DVDM-100 and plan to use it instead for the 9600. Philips does plan to support the movie side of the Escient Protocol. I'd hope to see something in this area before March of next year.

I got my 9600 yesterday and it took about ten minutes to setup with the fireball, would have only taken two if I had realized the power outage the night before had shut down the conditioner's switch supplying the fireball.

This thing is really cool, my first question to those in the know would be if there are any plans for EPG? They obviously had issues on the ipronto with EPG, but with that development, and technology advances it seems ithat f they can get the info off a fireball as fast as it does, and control it as extensively, they should be able to get Guide data in there through my gateway.

Any info on if this is something they are working on?

Just wondering if you will be posting any kind of detailed review of this product anytime soon? Even if its just some informal one here in this thread?

The main thing I wish to know about is the reliability factor. I have to use many macros because in my Theater I have a 4:3 70inch Analog Mits and a 16:9 106" Hi-Def Panasonic projector. So when I switch from one to another I have to convert the DVD player from 4:3 to 16:9 and the HD Tivo from 480i to 720p, plus raise a screen, etc etc... So I am looking forward to true reliability. I am also looking forward to using the RS232 to control my 400 disc DVD changer, Projector, and receiver.

Any comment you have on these issues would be highly appreciated.

Something local compared to something that has to go online...

Did it work for DVD cover art?

I won't be writing a review but I am happy to report that the IR was dead on. The 9600 remote is much better at handling IR than the NG series. Lowpro had to add delays between items to control his X10 IR equipment because the remote was sending codes extremely quickly. This is a GOOD thing as the NG remotes were slower and you sometimes had to add "duration" to a code. This was required on the NG because button keypresses were buffered into a queue and then transmitted. The 9600 apparently does not buffer button presses as it reverts back to the old Classic Pronto way where when you press a button, the pressed images stays until the Action List is completed.

I had ZERO problems with IR on the 9600 and was able to remove all "duration" settings on my Sony Codes. The few folks that did have IR problems were mainly because the codes were incorrect in the Factory Database.

I have an E40 upgraded to the series 2 software, but it is CD only so I don't know about DVD cover art, sorry. The CD cover art shows up, and fast, I have a nevo as well and the pronto is WAY faster interfacing with the fireball than the nevo with my media center PC. Th GUI is also much better, there is no page down button for the guide, but the little scrolling wheel gets you there pretty fast.

The 9600 is specifically coded to only work with the Music part of the DVDM-100 or the Fireballs. It does not currently support Movies but Philips has indicated to us that that support is very near (I hope by Christmas).

There are several things with the Escient Music Device that were surfaced late in the beta testing such as hard-button definition for the Escient device to support Multi-Zone on the 9600. Rest assured that Philips is working on this. I hope to see new software and firmware with these changes within the next 4 weeks.
