BEFORE programming any macros, load a file into the remote for the device in question. try EVERY command with the unit off and see what happens.

yuesterday i had a jvc receiver, no discretes, only power toggle BUT it turned on with only a few of the sources. i used cd-r. so cd-r was my anchor (unit on) then source select like dvd. to turn off - cd-r pause then power toggle.

also yestersay had a POS philips plasma. no discretes BUT channel up turned the set on. WTF but, hey it worked. so ch+, then input 1 was discrete on to input 1. ch+ pause power toggle, discrete off.

combo player - no discrete power BUT turned on with the play command. power off was paly - pause - power toggle.

i got stuck with 5 POS components - all philips - that i managed to have work arounds for. You may or may not be that fortunate
