Not necessarily. If you search the old threads and find your answer, there won't be a need to dredge up the old thread and add a new post. You are right, though, that if the old thread doesn't have the answer you're looking for, adding a post to it would be reasonable.
I guess at that point you run into us not wanting to have to cope with someone doing what Mr. Stanley did at first, bringing up HUNDREDS of old resolved or forgotten crap (it's crap now, but it wasn't back then), so someone like me just steps on you like a bug. Sorry.
