Written a few thousand years ago, before scientists "wised up". Notice the "circle of the earth".

With an open mind you would be able to accept a few things in the Bible which are accurate, while still maintaining your right to dismiss the rest. With a closed mind... well, where will you end up without an open mind to discuss and accept change?
