Oh, too bad for me.

It says that the BBC iPlayer VIDEOS are not available for streaming outside of the UK.

Thanks for trying.

One claim is based on science and reason and observation.

The other claim is from a work of fiction written thousands
of years ago by people who "knew" that the earth was flat.

davidcasemore that was the most ridiculous post I think you have ever made. Based on science the flat earth was based on the science of the day. Being based on the science of the day means often means nothing. People 100 years from now will laugh at some of the prevailing thoughts by the scientists - i.e. man made global warming. You act as if all branches of science is are absolutes. They aren't. What were concerned cutting edge ideas 20 years ago have been replaced by others. If there were ever a place where the term evolution is applicable it's to the sciences. Science stops being science when it does not adapt to new evidence regardless of what that does to their beliefs. When the Big Bang theory came out and they found that sooner or later it will all come crashing back on itself. That it will be destroyed in a cataclysmic event that can be only be matched with the start of the Big Bang. Many scientist of the day suddenly camr to the gross realization that what the Bible has said all along is going to happen because up to that point they thought that it would expand forever. Many could not accept that the Bible was correct therefore the collapse was not possible.

Well, that's kind of my point. Science CHANGES when new information comes along. Scientists ARE NOT embarrassed when new evidence requires them to update/change or totally disregard a previous idea.

The bible, on the other hand, still has the same old discredited BS. Why doesn't the bible reflect the changes of modern information?

I'll tell you: Religious Dogma. Nothing in the bible ever changes. The only thing that changes is which passages the church leaders choose to enforce and which ones they conveniently ignore.
For example:
Homosexuality = Evil (except by Ted Haggard et al. and many catholic priests)
Touching flesh of pig = ignored

Your choice!

Can I correct you - I know you are open minded to change!!

Written a few thousand years ago, before scientists "wised up". Notice the "circle of the earth".

Isaiah 40:22 It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:

With an open mind you would be able to accept a few things in the Bible which are accurate, while still maintaining your right to dismiss the rest. With a closed mind... well, where will you end up without an open mind to discuss and accept change?

There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

It says "circle", not Globe.

A FLAT circle. AND the CENTER of the entire universe to boot!

I have no use for the bible (although I suppose it could be used as rolling papers in a pinch).

davidcasemore this so amazing to see you become the Biblical literalistic. To see you become the very person that video was taking about. You're having the same reaction that some of the scientist did when they found out the everything in the Big Bang would collapse - just like the Bible says. You regurgitate what you've heard about the Bible, what you know about evolution, if I remember right man made global warming is one of your big things also but when challenged to objectively look at your beliefs you dig your heels in and refuse to acknowledge that what you "know" as correct might not be. But anyone that doesn't support your beliefs is not on your level of education or intellect. I'm looking forward to your normal response of some banal bit of sarcasm or personal attack.

why? evolution has nothing to say about how the earth was formed. But if some idiot takes genesis literally, then how can there be talk of day in it? what I mean is a day is dependent on the solar system but according to Genesis the sun and moon got created on day 4?

As for evolution, Genesis says there was plant life , then fish and birds, then mammals and lastly humans and every scientist will agree with such a time line

Also evolution gives the natural forces like "survival of the fittest" it does not explain why one sperm got to the egg first and became Tom Ciaramitaro instead one of the other ones in that batch (or even why something happened that time and not a month earlier). It does say that if a species has a limited range and something happens to the range it can kill it off, but not what caused that something (be it a drought that dries off the stream, or a flood that drowns it or any other cataclysm). And let's face it, if farmers can add their intelligence to guide evolution in plants and animals for millennia then why can't there be guidance from elsewhere.

That's right! What will you be doing? Speaking in tongues? If so, I guess your tongue has evolved more than mine because I can't do that.
