You get used to the channel and volume buttons on the left side very easily.
The cursor and select buttons are used by me more than the volume and channel buttons and they sit right under my right thumb. I am right-handed.
But, the buttons on the remote are few and so well-arranged that you will find that using the buttons where they are becomes second-nature very quickly.
And this is coming from a "button remote" person who loves his MX-800.
